Is the Asus Z70Va more than capable of playing todays games or just capable.

And will it be able to handle games for the next few years with above average peformance.

I'd say it's MORE than capable of playing today's games...although it depends on your settings. Any machine will struggle to play smoothly if you want to run it at 1680x1050 with AA and anisotropic filtering... with other goodies.
But when you set the graphic settings to something decent...medium-high settings...the Z70Va will do just fine; and it should continue to do so for at least a couple of years.

I agree with AuroraS. The Z70Va is a strong contender, it'll handle the likes of COD2, Doom3, HL2, and FEAR with no problems at all. That should give you an idea of how strong that unit is.

I think it is a capable notebook with a good graphics card.

It certainly isn't the fastest, but it is one of those laptops that is probably the best balance between power/weight.

almost i use 3dmark05 to run the test, it is very useful to get the score to find out which graphics card is better. of course, z70va is a best choice, otherwise, z81sp is another best choice for P4 cpu.

Nothing will be able to handle games with "above average" performance for a few years, especially not a midrange card. The x700 will do just fine in games right now, and it will still play future games decently, but not at "above average" performance.

Take the Geforce 4 for example. It has been a little over 3 years since it was released, but now even lower end cards are about on par with the Ti4200, mid-range is much faster than the at-the-time top of the line Ti4600.
