    Hey guys,

Just as an update, I wanted to let you know that some new notebooks arrived and one of them showed up a month and a half before it should.

The Z70a/v are the updates to the M6.

    Z70a - WXGA / integrated graphics / Sonoma

    Z70v - WSXGA+ / dedicated ATI x600 128mb / Sonoma

    A6u - WXGA / integrated graphics / AMD Turion 64

Here is a quick picture of the Z70v.... the color is NOT silve, but slightly lighter than the only M6 color... a nice choice if you ask me. Any members of the forum who were interested in these, they can email me directly. We're not going to put these on the site till tonight when all the other customers who already inquired about them can have time to place their orders.

It's not a matter of just turning it on.... we've got to build a couple of these out first.

My understanding is the screen in this unit is the retired screen from the W1..... Now, the Z71v's screen was supposed to be the same, but some people who had both said differently.... But I don't expect this screen to be much different than either of them. When we can build one of them up I'll let you know.

    Thanks,

    Hi Justin,

In addition to BBQmyNUTZ request of checking for darkness in the bottom right corner, can you also inspect for "sparkles" on solid green or white backgrounds? I was considering the Z71V released earlier, but if this Z70V doesn't have the screen problems, I'm sold.

    Thank you,
    Sandeep

Is that a touchpad that dimensionally corresponds to a widescreen?

BTW - Do you mean the Z70V (Not Z71V)?

I've got some bad news (well shouldn't be bad, but not at good as I thought).... The first Z70v I built up looks to have 64mb x600 (which is what it was originally supposed to have). Asus swore by 128mb and they released the official specs saying the same thing.

I put a request into Asus as well as to our guys to check out the rest of the systems. Asus responded back by say "whoops, our mistake... we'll change the spec sheets". Anyway.... they still came in a month and half early.

    Thanks,
    Justin

Dang, that is a beautiful machine. It's all down to this or the Z63A. The pictures posted by Justin just made the Z70A more appealing. I know the pics are of the "V" - is there a difference?

Don't worry about my topic.... but no, at the moment, there isn't any news.

In another unrelated topic.... the optical bay batteries for the W3's showed up today.

Kids! Kids! For god's sake... read his post. He said that was a Z71V... except the Z71V isn't black (it's like a gunmetal color), and only has a glossy screen if you leave the plastic sheet with the tacky yellow tape on it for the rest of it's life.

The Z71 is based more on the Z80 chassis than anything else.

The Z70 is allegedly supposed to look much like the M6 barebones. The A is integrated graphics, the V has dedicated video.

The A6 is something new, god knows what it looks like but if its Turion based, chances are it looks like pure unbridled ca-ca.

This is supremely confusing. I'm assuming that Justin was actually talking about the Z70V because the Z71V has been out for quite a while:

    http://www.proportable.com/detail.aspx?ID=101

I think the picture in this post depicts a Z70V. But what do I know - I think that clarifications are in order.

I'm sorry, that was a typo... Thats the Z70v, I'll fix it above.

It is EXACTLY the M6bne, except a WSXGA+, a new touchpad and obviously the sonoma chipset... as far as build goes.

The color is impossible to see the difference in anything but great light and you have to see the M6 color to tell there is even a difference. The M6's were a charcoal, the Z70v is about the gun metal grey that is on the Z71v... if you're familiar. It's a very subtle change, but for the better. In my opinion, anyone who would prefer the older chassis color need not worry.

The A6u -- Pictures were really already posted of the A6k and A6ne and so forth.... its the same system, just a more low cost unit... but honestly not a bad little system. I think the looks of the Z80k is certainly worse than this unit... so I think it should do fairly well.

    Thanks,
    Justin

I'm willing to bet my left nut (as long as nobody takes me up on it) that it is the Z70V in the pic. I'm sure the "71" was a typo.

    Yes, supposedly carbon fiber.

So, anybody, is that a "widescreen" touchpad?

    I've got two big announcements....

    1. The Z70v price is going to be identical to the Z71v.

    2. I just realized there is NOT bluetooth on the Z70v.

    __________________________
correction: there are bluetooth lights and a dedicated button, but I can't get BT to work. Asus didn't think they ordered them with BT, but they are going to check into it to see what happened there and see if there is a module they can import so we could offer it as an option.
    ___________________________

So basically the difference between them is..... the Z71v has the better video... but the Z70v has bluetooth, a carbonfiber chassis (which makes it lighter and stronger), the aluminum left and right click buttons, and the port bar option like the M6's had.

I don't know yet... didn't get to it. Since we refused to sell the Z71a, I don't recall the price, but just to give you an idea.... it's going to be $150 less than whatever you can configure the Z70v for... we'll have those up tomorrow.

Wow...form the sounds of it, I think the Z70v will be more popular than the Z71v.

I have to say that the pricing is slightly disappointing... a 128mb X600 would have been nice. Hopefully the Z70V's screen doesn't have the light leakage/sparkles/darkness issue that a lot of people have reported the Z71V to have. On the plus side though, at least the M6Bne is being resurrected with more up-to-date components. Is there any word of whether S-ATA will be offered on these machines?

edit: Are Z70V's still going to be available to order in early July?

Bad news.... It doesn't appear that bluetooth is on these Z70V or A. Both a bluetooth dedicated hot key and a bluetooth light is located on the both the V and A models. I built up a system and can't seem to get it to work.

I gave Asus a call and they said they didn't order with with Bluetooth, but those buttons and lights shouldn't be there. So they are going to call Taiwan and see if maybe bluetooth did ship in them, or if they could get the BT modules so we could offer them as an option.

But for right now I have to say there is NO BLUETOOTH. If this changes, I'll let you know.

The Z70v meets ALL my notebook needs! I've always loved the M6N's carbon fiber chassis, but hated that we couldn't get it with WSXGA+ in the U.S. I'm not a notebook gamer (that's reserved for my desktop), but can use a good video card for my multimedia and simulation design work. I was all set to pull the trigger on a V6V, but my money's going for the Z70v!!!

    Me happy!!

I've got an update for today......... There certainly isn't bluetooth in the Z70a/v but it IS prepped for it. Down the road for about $75 we'll be able to install the internal module. It's not as simple as just popping in a minipci card...... so anyone who buys one now and later wants to add bluetooth will have to send it in.

We expect Asus to bring in these modules by July.

what's with that obnoxious hump at the lower back of the screen? Looks like a place that would receive added pressure if it was in my carrying case because it sticks out. I don't like that. Any ideas?

That "hump" was there on the M6BNe as well.. however, the M6Ne (15.1" version) did NOT have that hump. It looks better without it, IMHO...

do u know if they'll be making a z70v with a regular aspect ratio screen (and if so, would it also be high res)? cuz i rather get a bigger screen WITHOUT the hump on the back screen.

Technically, Asus isn't going to import these in a regular ratio....

However, we COULD get an M6ne screen 15.1" SXGA+ and put it in the system for you. However, the M6ne screen has limite viewing angles and I honestly think the 15.4" WSXGA+ is better... but it could be done.

How big is the "hump"? It doesnt seem like a big issue but then again I havent seen or held one of the machines so I cant really tell.

It's not much at all..... 1/3 inch at most I'd say.

Personally I prefered the flat lid on the M6ne.... but it's a slightly larger machine and sort of boring without the little hump.... at least it's not just for design, it's there becasue they needed more room to fit some extra speakers.... so form follows function here.

    Thanks,
    Justin
