Sorry for a so dumb question, but when Asus says hotswappable it means that with the computer on i can take the DVD drive out and put the modular battery in with no harm to my lappy, a Z70v and/or Z70va?

Yeap.
It's really easy, just press and drag the button and pull the OD out.
I'm not sure if its safe if the notebook is on though..
But think of it as a removable drive like a USB -
On my Z71v, it works fine when I put the computer on standby before doing it. When I come out of standby, the battery (or optical drive) is up and running!

Hot swappable means that you can change it out while it's still on. I've tried it, it works with my HD, but when I pop out the HD, and replace it with my DVD-RW, it doesn't show up in My Computer. So dont know if it was supposed to be listed as "Hot Swappable" or not, but it doesn't really work. I'm afraid that some of my data may corrupt, so I power off first. I never read that it was Hot Swappable.

yeah, I think that means it's easily switchable, but not officially hot-swappable

I know someone will post an argument to this but no they are not 100% hot swap. Rob I think you found a good work around. I guess putting it in standby and waking up reinitializes the hd controller and forces to redetect. I ve seen the same complaint for all of them. Dont matter which trive you use ts or matsu****a. If you do try hotswapping it will not hurt your notebook. Worst case scenario you will be forced to reboot.
Z70v Modular Bay Hot-Swap???
