Just assembled a z70va from scratch but we decided to not purchase an optical drive. Now here's the fun part, it won't boot from USB harddrive/ can't see network optical drive. Now my question is, does it worth it to buy an external casing and use my 5.2" drive via USB ($30) or just get an optical drive for $75? Cause the person i assembled the notebook for seriously doesn't want the z70 optical drive since it wouldn't work with any other model.

Oh, Just want to ask the expert on this forum if you think the ASSEMBLING GUIDE would be better if Asus would suggest using tools other than "tweezer" for the removing keyboard part? That one got me bad.
    :asus:

    Edit:
Planing to buy a laptop for a lady who wants to play game, World of Warcraft, but doesn't want to lug around a rig. Which would you recommend? (No OS)
No, you cannot cheat by suggesting a $3000 laptop.
Price cap $1500. Winner gets free cookies freshly bake from the lady.

Plz accept my apology for bad grammar :750:

I think it'd work ok to have an external drive... but I think it's best to use the optical drive for the Z70; it doesn't add that much more weight anyhow.

As for your tweezers insight... I agree. Instead, I just a slot head screwdriver and it worked... other say use a creditcard or something... but tweezers? Man...

Hmm... as for that gaming rig... the Z71v is a great, budget gaming machine... but may possibly be too heavy for your lady friend.
The W3v would be the ideal machine... but it's $1699. I really don't know... hard to find cheap gaming rigs that are light.
