oh, haha, i personally like the z70va... that's the one I plan to buy =)

but it depends...
overall, the z71v is a more powerful machine. After all, it has things like SATA support, auto brightness adjusting screen, etc.

the z70va has built in bluetooth, and perhaps DVI (i'm praying for dvi version to be released SOON! mid-end of sept.)? But if dvi isn't important, you can always install your own bluetooth in the z71v.

hard to say which is better... it's a matter of peronal taste, uses, etc.
if you can ask a more detailed question, that is scientifically calculable, then we can say which is "better" in that one test area.

The bluetooth version should be out in another week or two.

 

I don't know too many places who are going to let Asus ship them the z70va's without bluetooth.... mainly because there aren't too many people who wouldn't pay $30 for it. Some dealers should have taken delivery yesterday or today.... but for a large scale build, installing the bt modules is way too time consuming. Our first batch of Z70va's will be by the end of next week with the bluetooth module already installed. DVI is still set for about the 21st, but surely before the end of the month.

how much different is the 5200 and the 7200 rpm harddrives? if you were configuring the z70va, which harddrive would you choose?

 

Ye i am not too fond of the fact that they now come without bluetooth but dealer upgrades are available

I think the hard drive choice really depends on what you plan on using the laptop for. For most practical purposes the 5400 rpm should be just fine. The biggest difference you will notice between the two would be boot time and games that load a lot from the HDD.

 

What other places are there to buy it? I only know of geared2play and proportable. Are there any other dealers that carry asus?

I'm a reseller and learned that Asus screwed up and released a batch of these to a few resellers who are now selling them. So in effect, most resellers don't have availability yet, and no one has bluetooth versions at all (from what i've found).

I will be selling prebuilt (or parts, you choose), Z70Va with free 2nd day air and 1yr warranty ... relatively soon. In fact, I might sell my Z71V and get myself a Z70Va instead

I mainly sell custom notebooks locally (Seattle area) because I like to talk to my clients about what they need, deliver the notebook to them personally, and talk about drivers, etc... to make sure they have a good experience. So, so far, no website since my business is local right now.

Got the z70va today.

No BT though, but Danny from CanadaSys told me if I wanted it, come by when he recieves it to get it installed for free if I buy it.

So far so good, although it does get a tad toasty...

currently playing around with voltage and stuff...

The fans can get quite loud when plugged in and at max performance.

the whole laptop seems a bit hot, 60+~ degrees or so at max performance...

I'm playing around, not really used to CHC+speedfan.

Pentium 3 never had that

 

Undervolting, my friend...it works wonders.

My M6Ne used to run at 60+ degrees too...
now it works in between 45-55... even at Max Performance

 

It ran at 60+ for a while, now at 55~58...

Not sure what Im doing haha

im pretty disappointed... i haven't seen the internal bluetooth being released anywhere...can i just buy a z70va and get the bluetooth installed later?

 

If you can wait just like a week from now there will be resellers with the internal bluetooth model.

 

I wouldn't be too quick to say yes or no....... The internal BT module is an actual orderable part. However, I did the testing for that unit this summer and it does take a considerable amount of time to install it and requires basically pulling the entire motherboard out of the chassis. Dealers who bought the Z70va without bluetooth were surprised to find these modules that Asus provided for them in this shipment were actually USB BT dongles..... They should correct that, but that's down the road.

We have a shipment of Z70va's w/ internal Bluetooth that are arriving on this coming Wednesday (on our site this weekend), but that shipment will be sold out by time they come in. Asus told us that they're still waiting for a larger Z70va w/ bluetooth shipment...... so large scale supply may not be for at least another week after that. It's a waiting game at this point and it depends on what kind of time you have and if you really need bluetooth.

I couldn't tell you without running the notebook and your zip through the site, but I'd venture to say for a notebook that size to California.... probably $60 for FedEx 2Day.

We don't have any any discount besides the Notebook Review Member program they're constantly running. Then we have our 2% commision referral program which sometimes we look at as mainly a college program because those are the only people who make use of it. It's not what you're lookin for, but to try to explain it.. on average in the last year, close to 60% of our customers referred one sale... close to 20% reffered two and about 5% referred 3 or more. Of that 5%, nearly 90% were college kids. The main reason why we have that program is because in college kids are willing to try something new (yes computers too) and something other than average draws the attention of a lot of people on a college campus.... what is it? where'd you get it? ... That's why we have the program.

Now that I think of it, I don't know where you go to school, but we do have contracts with many schools (most people already know this before asking), but if your school has an account with us and they do some sort of quantity, we can put you under their account (for the discount), but you obviously could pay with a PO unless you were in thier purchasing dept.

does proportable include tax with the purchase of a laptop?

the asus z70va is the one i really want but theres the z71v... which one do you think is better? in your opinion... is there a big difference in the nvidia 6600 and the x700?
i don't really have much use for bluetooth because i only use bluetooth to send ringtones and stuff to my cell phone... but one day im hoping to use some wireless keyboards and mouses..

i want to save as much as possible... i dont want to invest so much on a laptop... my range would be around 1400-1600... with shipping and everything included...

There's not a huge difference between the Geforce Go6600 and the Radeon x700... they are about equal, with the Radeon being slightly better in some scenarios; nothing too spectacular though.
The decision is really yours... the Z70Va is a great all around machine; solid, aesthetically appealing, and has many good features. Very future-proof... at least for the next several months. The Z71v is a great budget machine... probably one of the best around. However, since you ARE paying less, the quality is sure to be slightly lower... but still good.
If you CAN, go with the Z70Va... you wont regret it.
If you really are short on cash... go for the Z71v

1. the Z70v has 64mb x600 - still a great machine
2. the z71v has the 128mb nvidia 6600 -- better graphics but lower end everything else in my opinion
3. the z70va ... great all around but low quantities and about $150 more than the z70v... $170 more than the z71v ... but you've got bluetooth and 128mb x700.

We've got only 16 Z70va's w/ bluetooth coming in next Wednesday. More will follow on Thursday, but getting something to you by the 28th might be pushing it. We've got a 5 business day build period, and ship 1-2 day....... when you figure it out, it's possible, but thats if you're at the top of list when we put the system up on the site.... it'd doable, but there are still too many variables to guarentee it.

 

Alright Justin, thanks for the answer. School starts the 29th and I think the z70va is the best in its class so I'm just trying to work that all out.

gosh this z70va notebook is out of my price range... it came out to be 1800 something... im so unsure now... i think i have to settle for something cheaper and more affordable....

how about lowerng some of the specs, such as the RAM and HD.. you can always upgrade it later.

 

well alright ill try lowering the ram and harddrive... probably settle for a 512 and 40gig
