    Hey Everyone...

Rather than update one of the older posts I thought I'd give you an update that would be sure to be noticed. Some new Z70va's arrived today with a special note. I'm still trying to validate exactly what was "changed" but Asus said that the issue was not in the screen itself, but in some "panel chip". They were able to figure out what went wrong and where and said all of the Z70va's that are shipping now have this update. It didn't affect every unit, but Asus has changed the chips in the affected units and in unsold systems. As of today all of our stock is now made up of these new systems and in the words of Asus "there is nothing to worry about at this point". In my words, at least they acknowledged what the problem turned out to be, how they located them in their stock and how they fixed them..... but in the end, the screens have the same warranty the system has and is going to be covered for anything that malfunctions. This is just something that helps us be secure in ordering from Asus and should help ease the minds of most of you as well.

Awesome news! the panal chip makes sense. Glad to hear the LCD's don't need to be chucked (from a sustainability/environmental perspective). So now I have to find time to go and get this change. Would they replace the board or do they still have to swap my LCD with one that has had this fix? Thanks for the update Justin.

    SOMEONE plz buy!@!! the V6va!!! gah!!!! i wanna see a review!!! =\

Um, Juken, do you like WS or NOT?, want 5.5lbs or 6.5lbs laptop?

Right now the V6va has a special screen with IPS and this will stop next year, so get it now, it supposedely has amazing Viewing Angles, because of this new tech.

Also the V6va is 2k$ USD.
the Z70va is 2k$ maxed out

    V6va comes with a pathetic 4200rpm yet big 100gb HD =\

Get it from Pro-Portable and you will recieve 2 year global warranty, while qty lasts.

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

I had decided to wait on the WS and have a look at the new line that were coming out. The more I read about the V6Va the easier my decision becomes. The IPS just may push me over to the V6Va. I do plan on getting the laptop from Pro-Portable and a faster hard drive from newegg. It will be alot of $$$, but you get what you pay for huh :D

That is good news Justin, glad to hear it. A lot of people have been avoiding the Z70VA lately due to the red ghosting.

Maybe they tapped it with a magic wand. :p Abra kadabra!

Well, for systems that are already out there, they're suggesting panel replacements only because it's easier for the dealer to do. If it goes to Asus they may do the same thing, but I'm not sure.

In regards to the obvious jacking of the thread by yet another person who can't decide on the V6va or the Z70va....... IPS is actually an older tech that was just expensive....... Asus actually displayed the FIRST ACEview screen which used IPS back in the spring of 2003 on the L5 at computex I believe...... They used it on the L5gm in a XGA form and they brought over 50 (count them... only 50) in one shipment of the L5ga which was SXGA+. We were the ONLY place with the SXGA+ models and after quickly selling out of about 40 of them, the other 10 wouldn't budge for 3-4 months and we sold the rest to a distributor who wanted to get their hands on them. I didn't save my unit, but I did save a replacement screen just incase. I put it in my M6ne last year and with the right mod, got it to work. There was never another screen like it, till the one that's on the V6va. It's not the same screen, but it's darn close. The main difference is that this one is thinner...... that's actually what surprised me. The only downside to the tech was that it was thicker, mainly because the L5 had an actual piece of glass that covered the panel..... I don't *think* this is glass, but I think it would be heavier and thicker if it were..... but the results are still great.

..... but this thread was to talk about the fixing of an issue and how it is being properly handled...... hopefully this will make some people understand why certain things have to be investigated to get resolution. As well as how open the communication between us and Asus and what's going on really is. This is not something you would have been able to follow with any other company..... being able to see what's happening sometimes makes it seem like it's taking for ever, but you just need to grow up and understand how things work. Samsung determined it was this chip and figured out how to take care of it.

Soooooo, this is great news, as they have figured out what the problem was. Thing is, does this mean reseller must now replace our panels for us since it's been made official? Has it been made official? So Asus is saying yes they will take back all the bad panels?

    Cheers,
    Mike

    Thanks for the update Justin~!

I'm guessing he's gonna call me like next week or something.

Another Z70Va review? Do we really need another one? haha

Hmm...i talked to my retailer (in canada, canadasys) and they said they haven't had official word from asus yet...

My Red ghosting has actually begun to expand, from 1cm left margin, to about 2-3cms. Should I call asus directly (there's a service center quite close to where i live)? Or call the headoffice of my retailer (my particular branch didn't really know anything about red ghosting...only vaguities)?

.... don't they have deliver word by dog sled, eh? :)

... the word has been "official" since about 5 minutes before I made the post. Perhaps they didn't tell them yet.

Didnt get any official word from asus. I am pretty sure it was widely known that the problem was infact with the lcd months ago. Their "official" statement sounds almost condesending to me. But i guess i cant complain becuase they have been replacing our bad units for a few weeks now and still replacing 5 at a time but still not fast enough. Just to add. Dealers are still suposed to screen for this issue.

haha you guys are hilarious...oh yeah guess what....I hate to steal the thread, but my sexy Asus is not as sexy anymore...I'm an idiot and as an idiot I carried my beautiful Celia in my Mountain Equipment Co-op bag instead of the laptop bag and ended up scratching the freakin' case like a psycho....T_T...any way of buffing it out? I'ts not really scratches, but more like...wait yeah they're scratches haha...swirls and stuff...I will try to take pictures...

Justin and/or Eddie help~! Can I use some kinda wax? Or should I start a new thread? haha

    Cheers,
    Mike

Sorry to tell you, but there's not much you can do.
One of our customers is a Z63A owner and made the same mistake by using another bag...
He ended up scratching the LCD lid pretty nicely.
One thing you can do is purchase custom vinyl cover for it.
Browse around the internet for custom vinyl companies...
You may have some luck there.

I think you should start a new thread. You can use a giant bumper sticker to cover up the scratch. I think they've got large stickers in a shape of a band-aid, a novelty product for fender benders. :D

Have this happen once on a blue moon a few times in the last year, The sad part is the customer always blames it on shipping or qc error and makes us eat the cost. I usually dont mind as i know we dont ship damaged equipement and i know this dont happen in shipping. Its pretty obvious that when a customer gets a half assembled laptop they will turn it over and risk scratching the lid if they dont take precautions. Solution is we replace the lid and pay for shipping. The level of satisfaction you get out of telling someone "uuuh yeah its my pleasure to replace the lid for you that you claim was shipped this way EVEN THOUGH YOU ARE LYING THROUGH YOUR TEATH and now you can expect less then enthusiastic service when you need help in the future becuase i just added this as a comment to your invoice for future referrence". Anyways the solution is ask your vendor for a free lid. They are very easy to replace for a technically exprienced guy like you. I dont know who your vendor is but if they sell any considerable ammount of these things i am sure they stock more then just a few spare lids.

I am pretty sure you are suposed to contact him not the other way around unless you have set up a prior rma IN WRINTING and aproved. If not then dont hold your breath. Only time i contact someone premptively about an issue is if they are special....family, friends, neighbors or people i know and bump into on forums who aqre also friends. Everyone else is just impossible to keep track of unless they sent in an email/pm that is kept as new or setup prior rma.

    Eddie,
Yeup, I'm waiting on him as he called me before and told me that he didn't forget about me. :D

He said he would let me know when he gets final word from Asus.

I'm too busy to be calling right now, as I have a major term paper due and a program due this Tuesday. :'(

    Somebody shoot me now.

    Cheers,
