Hey all, long time no post. Anyhow, my battery life recently got really bad and I thought that maybe it was time to buy a new battery. Jumping on these forums, I found an article regarding the battery life of some Asus notebooks. The article can be found at http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=106773& Old thread but really helpful!

For you lazy clickers :), it seems that some Asus notebooks dont have the correct reading for your battery life, something to do with Bios or the ACPI. Anyhow, I've been at 0% for nearly 15 minutes now and my notebook hasn't died out yet... That's with wireles card on, a notebook cooler pad connected via usb, and also a few programs running.

Anyhow, Just wondering if any other z70va owners are in the same situation as me. Thanks in advance

Have you tried running the battery calibrator in the BIOS? That MIGHT help the battery re-calibrate and give more accurate readings in Windows.

Yep, I also suggest calibration. Safer than running the battery past 0%. I know it's supposed to be safe, firmware safeguard switches and all, but given the amount of bugs I see in firmware in ASUS computers, I would just consider it safer to not trust the firmware.

So yes, do run a battery calibration.

Ironically, I just did the calibration about two weeks ago and that's when it got worse. I did the calibration twice though because the first time got interrupted. That might have been what made it worse.

As far as buggy firmware, any way to fix it or minimize the bugs? Thanks in advance.

Ohh yeah, notebook turned off at around 34 min of the battery cruising at 0%.

Well then don't do any more calibrations.

Firmware, besides updating BIOS there's not much you can do.

Maybe your battery is just old and starting to die, who knows...
