I just receive my z70va and the keyboard is fine on the left side. However, on my right half. When you click a button, you'll here a spring sound and it's sound very bouncy and loose. I check and it's not the screw since they are all tight. Now i'm start to wondering if it's a bad keyboard. The probelm starts from "P" and everything else to the right and below it. Also, "Backspace and Home" key

Should i ask the retailer to send me a new keyboard? Or is there a better solution? I live in Seattle, WA.

You could always try reseating the keyboard to see if that helps... or putting some double sided tape underneath it.

Just unscrew the two "K" screws from the bottom... then release the latches at the top of the keyboard and reseat it.

reseated twice.. didn't work. So i took the whole thing out and put it on a towel and try typing on it, and it's still acting the same way. So it's actually the keyboard. The keys also seem to be a little loose on the right side but tighter on the left.

perhaps the keyboard is bent... I guess you could try bending back into place OR just asking your reseller for a replacement.
There's probably not much else you could do... :(

Can you guys with z70va check if your numbers on the keyboard match your machine. Becuase mine doesn't, but it does has some scratches on the back when i first open it. I'm not sure if the retailer swapped my keyboard.

Just ask your vendor for a new one if you really cant put up with it. Have seen one keyboard over the last few months that was not up to par with the rest. Anything is posible. Only one way to find out if you got a dud kb. :)

I have the same problem with my M6V unit exactly the same place as you have described. I've opened up my keyboard at it looks like the material covering the dvd drive isn't sturdy enough to hold the right side of the keyboard. I'm not sure what to do about this. I had this problem with a dell i had before this and thats just the way it was.

Has nothing to do with the cd rom. You guys want a light nb but then complain if its not made out of steel. The problem is with the kb. Its warped you can try bending it back. Ofcourse the plastic on the cd rom will give way. Its suposed to. You should not press hard enough on it to feel that.

Take your keyboard out and put 2 layers of thick grey scotch tape on the metal plate beneath it, on all the bouncy places. I am serious, it'll fix it. I've done it on my W2V and the noise is gone. Had a W1N before - absolutely same story there - same method was used to fix the problem. Heard at least 10 other people complain on this forum over their keyboards - with various Asus notebook models. Makes me think Asus just dropped the ball in designing a proper keyboard seating mechanism - yet somehow no one wants to admit it..

Just did the same thing to about 5 z70va's. The right side has a tiny bit of flex if you press down with all 5 fingers. If you put some force into it then it feels like there is a cavity under it. So what? Extremely trivial. I just dont understand. Use it normal and it will behave as it should. If you push down on it then it will flex. Why is this hard to get over? Sheesh you guys are picky. Would you rather asus reinfoce the notebook with another pound or more of plastic/metal or have what you have now? Double sided tape will not help. If you really want to get rid of what i would describe only as normal and trivial you need a thin sheet of metal to go under the kb. Why would one do this does not make sense but if you really cant stand this then its your solution.

I can not agree with something that i categorically disagree with. Yes i am an asus dealer but if i dont like something i will gladly admit it and not sell it on the site. I happen to disagree with the claim you just made. If you dont find their designs sturdy then you need to get a laptop made out of iron so it does not flex. I ll find 20 other things about the z70va that you can call flawed design but I wont mention them becuase its just trivial. Forum goers are picky needless to say you would not be here in the first place you you were not picky.

That Asus keyboard assumption is not a good one... I can state for a fact that my Z63a keyboard is SOLID; perhaps one of THE best features of this laptop, to be honest... what's funny is that there appear to be four latches holding the keyboard in place at the top; from what I see, only 3 of them are actually locked down... but the keyboard is extremely solid already; no need for latch #4!

I concur. Actually there are 6 on the z63a. 4 on top and 2 on the side. If one seems to be not locked in it prolly is. The latches can get under the black film covering the kb and seem like they are not locked. You can always try to reseat it or press down. If pressing dont realease it means it already locked just trapped under the black tarp. The z63a is a marvel of a machine. Second most popular for us right below the z70va.

How did you guys take out the keyboard on the w2v? Mine has the same problem with the Ins/Del/Home/Backspace keys being "bouncy" and "springy." Kinda annoying considering the rest of the keyboard is solid and noise-free. I think I checked an image uploaded by ProPortable in another thread that shows the underside of the keyboard with 5 screws covered by the battery. Something about taking them out to reach the memory slot under the keyboard. That's about it though.

Anyone have clear-cut instructions on removing the w2v keyboard? I wanna try putting some tape too =D

Ok guys. I didn't mean to start a fire here XD. But hey, the tape thingy work. The right side of the keyboard didn't seem to hold down to the copper plate base so it vibrate everytime i press the button. Just put a small tape next to it and it doesn't vibrate as much anymore. Guess what! The key where the tape is directly under is SUPER SILENT! NO click or anything, but a nice smooth bouncy. ^_^..... I'm happy.
And Prop to Eddie for offering me assistance eventhough i didn't buy the parts from him.

That's exactly right. Those 5 screws, and remove the thing with all the small holes in it, above the keyboard.

And i also think the keyboard on the w2 is not up to par with the rest of the notebook.
Keyboard quality is a place where Asus should improve, and i believe it gotta be possible without adding 5 kilo steel to it.
