Let me start off by saying the z70va is a great laptop. There are a couple of isues (annoyances) I am having. I have contacted the reseller and they are addressing the issues with Asus.

    1. The red ghosting on the screen is bothersome especially when watching a dvd against a black background

    2. Constant creaking in the lower right side of the palm rest. It does'nt take much pressure, just normal usage.

Anyone have the above problems fixed? TIA for any input.

The screen issues are still common for the new batch of z70va's from Taiwan, so earlier releases like mines don't have that 'ghosting'. The creak is also not there.

The best thing to do, Is to wait til a new batch comes, and get your reseller to trade the one you have with the, hopefully, fixed version

Do they recently ordered ones still have the red ghosting problem? I thought it was isolated to just a small number of z70va's.

From everything I've read it is an isolated # of units. I just got mine about 2 weeks ago and have no problems at all with the screen. I've watched dvds against dark backrounds, I've ran different screensavers against black backrounds and haven't seen any signs of ghosting at all. I think you have to keep in mind the total amount of units sold (z70va's) and the amount of posts we've seen by actual owners having the problems. Now I don't know the exact #'s but I think it gets blown out of porportion by people that are worried about it before they buy one. Don't get me wrong, when spending this kind of cash for a machine, you should be worried and check out everything.

My Z70Va palmrest flexes around the right side hole where the screen latch goes into and creaks. Bad thing is when using the touchpad my hand rests on the general area.

The battery also causes general palmrest creaking on both sides :(
Goes away when I take the battery out, but I hardly ever do that. Not sure if I can do anything about it now, I've had it for a month and a half already.

I also think the GPU fan noise is a bit excessive, if I leave it on at a desk the fan comes on and eventually never stops spinning at 2400rpm. I wish the GPU fan was as good as the CPU fan. CPU fan can be set to as low as a quiet 1200rpm whereas the GPU fan can't get under 1970rpm. I ended up just turning the fan off manually when in 2D. Gets a bit toasty, up to 77C was the max I saw when idle but I think it's okay considering gaming pushes it way beyond that even with the fan at full blast.

Coriolis will resellers exchange my month old laptop with a brand new one? I find it hard to believe...but always optimistic :)

The screen issue looks like it will be fixed in way or another. Just waiting for the reseller response. I am waiting for the reseller who is waiting for a solution from Asus. (I understand it is a business, and the reseller don't wait to eat the cost of repairs until Asus provide them a solution)

For a laptop which is built on hi-tech materials of carbon fiber and mag, it sure creaks like an old rusty wheel chair. Creaking and the fan noise is extremely annoying especailly in a quiet room. I have tried tighten the screws in the battery bay without luck.

If anyone had their reseller provide them a solution please post. TIA

I'm no technician but I "think" the creaking has something to do with the screw being too tight or loose. And also the battery pushing up in the battery bay.

hey guys, i'm interested in purchasing the Z70VA but the screen issue and the creaking issue seem to be holding me back. does anyone know if asus is planning on fixing these issues?

i think i might just wait another month to see if there are any fixes from asus before purchasing a laptop.

I've tried about three z70va's so far, none of them have that 'creaking' problem.

Hmmm, the screw is indeed a possibility.

I've heard that the battery isn't flush all the time, how is if for you guys?

Battery fits into the bay quite well, doesn't move or anything. But if I lift up my notebook a bit and grip the battery and palmrest and squeeze it makes quite a bit of creaking noise, especially on the right side. I've also tried tightening and loosening the screws found in the battery bay without success.

hamboi...don't worry about the creaking issue as it is just a little annoyance and doesn't detract from the rest of the unit...this thing is freakin' amazing.

I just love the keyboard, it's so effortless to type on this thing, but some may not like the low key travel. I fixed my cousin's laptop for her and she has a Toshiba A10. The keyboard on that thing is pretty nice, I liked it, but the keys on that unit have a lot more key travel so it has a more positive feel to it. The keyboard on the Z70Va is more of a touch typist type keyboard, where you don't need to pound on the keys for them to go down. One thing about this keyboard that I don't like, but isn't a big problem to get used to is the spacebar. It sits a bit lower than the boarder around it so sometimes it's easy to miss the spacebar. Shouldn't be a problem for people who type with their hands in an upright position like you would when playing the piano. As for myself I'm lazy so I tend to leave my palms on the palmrest and sometimes miss the spacebar. Honestly not a big deal as this unit is so dang nice.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Coriolis...the battery on my unit seems to go in flush. :D I almost threw my laptop on the floor when I opened the screen, since I'm not used to it being so light with the battery out. LOL I almost cried out in the library...kekeke

I'm gonna give it a go on the screw thing and try tightening or loosening it up under the battery bay. Hope it works since I like my unit and don't want a replacement if it's for a creaking issue that can be fixed.

If I can get the panel replaced for the Red Ghosting issue that'd be awesome~! I wanna keep my baby :D

    Cheers,
    Mike

Hi . Im very happy with my new z70va but ive got the same creaking issue.
Its all under the palmrest and if i take out the battery the creaking is less aparent.
At first i was realy disapoited becose of all ive heard about the chassis of the z70v being so strong but i guess im going to live with it. Anyway a great laptop and if someone find a solution for the creaking issue let us know .

    Cheers

Mine's flush and does not creak at all anywhere. I just spent 30 mins trying to find a creaking spot..

I found one, when I 'attempt' to rip the body in half, then it creaks...

LOL Coriolis...when you attempt to rip it apart? STOP IT~!!! STOP TRYING TO FIND CREAKS ON YOUR BABY BY TORTURING HER~!!! jeez, if it ain't broke don't try to BREAK IT~!

grrrr...and it's not even my laptop...imagine how I get when I do something to mine :D

I think the problem is that some units just don't have parts that are "cut/molded" well enough to fit totally flush, so some movement/flexing happens to cause the creaking.

    Oh well, whaddaya gonna do?

    Cheers,
    Mike

Yes, the z70v i assembled last week does creak on the right palm rest. Remind me of Dell XD. I remember pressing on it 3 times to make sure i wasn't dreaming. Also, is it just me or does the power on button feels a bit.... cheap. Other than that, she's a beauty.
