Only recently has this issue come to the surface and it seems to only occur transiently with no rhyme or reason I have noticed. The issue is that the part of the power cord that plugs into the laptop itself makes a really high pitched whining noise. As I said, it only happens once in a while and if I fiddle around with the cor and the laptop position it seems to stop. Last time it happened I unplugged the cord to see if there was anyhting unusual about the prong that went into the laptop. Everything looked to be on the up and up but it was incredibly hot to the touch, to the point that I couldn't handle the metal directly. Has anyone had this issue or anything similiar and is my laptop possibly about to explode? :( Come to think of it, the batteyr life on this laptop quickly reduced itself to around an hour or so in the year or so I have used it. I didn't think this was related but possibly might it be? ANy and all help or suggestions are appreciated!

Sounds like a similar problem that I am having with my power cord on my A6TC notebook.

Periodically the black transformer box will make a quiet whining sound and my laptop will switch from mains to battery power. If I wiggle the power cord it stops but if i dont notice it the box and metal connector get seriously hot to the touch. I have only had the laptop for 8 months! My battery life seems fine at the moment but it is a relatively recent problem for me.

I did phone and e-mail ASUS tech support but they turned out to be less than brilliant (how are other peoples experience with the customer support?).

Well, it seems something is wrong with the power adapter and/or the connection between the prong and the DC socket in the notebook.

I would RMA if still under warranty... electrical problems are dangerous to the notebook.
