I recently received my Z71V barebone system which I have completely assembled myself. However, now, and even before assembling, I noticed something odd. On the left, the Windows key, alt key, and the left side of the space bar felt slightly harder to push than every other key. It was as if something was pushing up on the keyboard from below.

So, after detaching the keyboard I found that the cause was the keyboard wire which connects it to the system was pushing on the bottom of the keys, causing them to feel harder to press. So I thought about it for a bit, and figured the only excuse is that it was a design flaw, especially since I couldn't fix it.
It isn't a huge deal since the keyboard DOES work, but the stiffness of the space bar worries me as sometimes when I press it, it doesn't completely press to cause a keypress.

Now, I'm curious though; have any other Z71(a/v) owners noticed a slight bend in their keyboards? Are there any stiff keys, or bumps anywhere?

I'd just like to confirm whether or not this is just a design flaw, or if perhaps there's a defect in only my notebook.

Thanks in advance for all replies.

If this was common to the keyboard of the z71v you would probably be the one of a million that would notice. I ve never had any mention of this. Thinking about what yhou said about the ribbon....There is no way that ribbon does anything to those keys atleast not that you can feel. It folds very tightly and tucks into the north part of the keyboard as far as i can remember. I can take a snapshot if you disagree to make sure. There for sure is no design flaw here. You may want to make sure your ribbon is folded properly. Maybee take a pic and show us what you see there. :D

Make sure that the keyboard is pressed down on ALL sides...... it sounds to me like the keyboard didn't bypass one of the hold downs on the side..... these keyboards are all basically the same and all sit flat...... no design flaws.

Yeah, I know you wouldn't know this, but it's on basically every other model now..... z63a / W3v ..... V6v / W5a .... but you're right, M6 and M7 don't have those... nor does the W1 for that matter.... those models have the stand offs that help pull it down in the middle..
