The Z71V I bought this week has proved to be problematic. I bought a re-badged Z71V built from a barebone, and was pleased enough. Until I tried to install Pro-Tools, which was one of the main reasons I bought the system. I got the blue screen of death instantly when trying to start it up. I tried installing a more recent version of Pro Tools, and still with the blue screen. Thought maybe re-installing Windows might be an idea, only to find that the windows won't read my XP cd, even though my crummy old desktop will. Won't even read it to boot from it. Another DVD I burnt recently gets the same treatment - explorer doesn't error, just comes up blank. Also, strangely there is an extra drive letter for a dvd drive that isn't there. I still have the option to return it and I think I may. Sadly the Z70Va isn't available here in Australia, and I doubt I'll be able to get these specs for anywhere near this price. Not sure if I'm looking for help in any way, just wanted to let you know of my (sad) experience

I'd take it back if your re-installed the OS and it still don't work.

Thanks, think I'll have to...

I have a funny feeling that the Window may not be properly installed. May be it's was uploaded to the memory, then somehow get lost, before it gets to be record on the HDD. This happen to a couple of laptop i fixed before. Turns out to be the memory issue. If you can show me the bluescreen with the "MESSAGE" on it, i can tell you what's wrong with it. Also, about booting from CD, did you change the bio to set it to BOOT FROM CD?. The key is F2 if you do not know yet. Blue screen is never the computer's fault. Usually improper installation or hardware. Only 2 hardware that can cause this are the HDD and the RAM.

:Edit:
The extra drive u see maybe from an emulator program you have. Such as deamon, etc... -
If you have 2 sticks memory, 1 is on the bottom of laptop, another is located behind the keyboard, try to take out one. oh~~
before doing it, you can try using a memory software to test and make sure the issue relate to hardware or software, then narrow down the problem. -
What's memory software? Anyone have any good recommendations?
