I have recently (may 6th) recieved this asus laptop, and am somewhat displeased with it so far.

I have a few problems which I wonder if anyone here can help me how to fix.

The first is that the laptop only shuts down correctly half the time. The other half of the time I have to hold down the power button to turn it off. Can someone tell me what's wrong with my computer or it shutting it down with the power button may be damaging it?

Another problem is that I cannot connect to battle.net to play warcraft 3 or starcraft. I connect to a router with an RJ 45 cable. Can anyone tell me what's going on?

The last and most frustrating problem is that the AC adapter becomes extremely hot after about 5 to 10 minutes of charging while use, or even charging while the laptop is off. The temperature is so hot that I can't even pick up the AC brick. I think it must have been at least 100 degrees fahrenheit one time when I finally decided to feel how hot it was. It must have been charging for 30 minutes to an hour.
I have no idea why it gets so hot. Does anyone else have the same problem? Is this a manufacturing problem? Please help me [ :(]

Remember the good old days when you didn't need a video card to play games?

What OS do you have installed and is it a truly leagal copy? I've seen plenty of issues with shutting down and they all seem to be related to the OS.

I can't help you on your warcraft issue, but I assure you, it's not computer. If anything, it's a setting in your firewall...on your router or maybe some setting on your computer, but that'd be hard to tell... If some others are more familiar, they might know the answer off the top of their head.

Power bricks always get hot.... they're transformers. I'd say if it was only 100 degrees, it'd probably running cool. Granted that power brick isn't 3-4 pounds by itself and running dual cooling fans like some 17" gateway's and hp's I've seen....... but regardless, they're going to get hot when their working. If you can't pick up a 100 degree object, I wonder if you shower in cold water. Normal bath water is what... 130+ ?

    Thanks,
    Justin

    1) The problem with shutting down is related to conflict in device driver and applications. For example, at one point in time Symantac Antivirus had that problem with WinXP. One of their patch prevent windows from shutting down, thus you have to unisntall or or use another software. It is rarely a hardware issue

    2) Connecting to battle.net. Again, it is more of either firewall applications or your router. Rule of them is as long as you could browse the internet, there is nothing wrote with the network adapter. So if you are using WinXP SP2, chances are the default firewall application is causing the problem or some firewall application. Or it could be your router having the port blocked.

    3) AC Adapter extermely too hot. Keep in mind one thing, as processors get more advance, they require more juice and AC Adapter will get hot. In the Z71V perspective, I don't believe mine got to a point where i can't pick it up. You either have extremely sensative hand or you need a replacement adapter. Contact where you purchase it from for replacement.

    ---

In summary, all of the thing you have specified so far does not explain why you are displeased with the laptop. It is applications issue or other issue not relating to the laptop.

If you buy a nice sport car, but the road you drive on have pot holes, is it the fault of the car?

I agree with smile on all of the above but i like to add something to the ac adaptor part. The z71v ac adaptor gets mildly warm. I would guesstimate about 130F which is average for 65watt ac adaptors

Exactly.... 130 degrees would be super hot if it was the temperature outside...... but for a little tranformer like that.... it's normal if anything.

Yep, pretty much what everyone has said.

For the router problem, its normally the firmware/software problem, especially on the brand of the router and if there's another person in your household who is also connected to b.net.

    Good luck.
