First off...... what are you trying to do? The coax is an input, where as the s-video is an output. Either way, component to coax is dumb either way.

If you're trying to output and need an s-video to component adapter.... you're not going to get better quality than s-video will give you and most, if not all tv's with component inputs should have an s-video input also..... so why waste the money on an adapter if that is the case.

Just two things to look at.

I know you wont get any more quality from s-video to component. not sure what you are linking coax stuff for. Coax will only look better if its coming from a better source than s video. what you should be looking at if a ATI VGA to component video adapter. this should work i cant seem to find anywhere else that has the vga version anymore. http://www.s-video.com/hdtvr8500.html

edit im not so sure if that will work with an x700 here some more info
    http://www.ati.com/products/hdtvadapter/faq.html

Heres the DVI version http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814999203 but not sure if you could use that with a vga to dvi adapter never tried. If you have more question avsforum.com has alot of info on this stuff.

ok what im trying to do is use the coax input to adapt a component hook up because this laptop only has a tv tuner but no s video in or RCA in.

... right, I hate to tell you that you should have bought a W2, but it's got a mini rca input for audio and video..... the only laptop we've had that has had an input like that built in.

to many people have trouble with inputing video to the W2V though. ive never tried myself though. While there might be some type of adapter for that i dont think it would be that cheap. It would have to convert the singal somehow. i think you would be best off getting a USB TV video capture card. They arent to much money. And they work well. hauppauge makes one thats good.

SRD and Justin are both right. (As an aside, I had something like that rigged up back in 2002-2003, first with an S-video to component adaptor for the SONY monitor in the OR to record laproscopic movie clips. The adaptor got yanked out when an intern tripped over the cord. We then used a VGA-component output adaptor and the picture was MUCH clearer.) We have used a Hauppage USB TV video capture card as SRD mentioned, and it has worked well enough for our needs. It's really quite nifty (but you need to use USB 2.0, though that shouldn't be a problem). The downside is that it was provided by work so I can't recommend a reseller for it, nor do I know how much they run in price. 2 cents.
