I am also interested in purchasing a Asus Z9000 laptop it would be a 1.7 dothan 512 ddr i have read the review at Tom's hardware review
but i am still quite uncertain if its very reliable..does it get really hot? does it crash when your playing intensive games?
when i look at it, it seems like a decent notebook but it seems a little too cheap for what i'm getting.. not sure if i'm being too paranoid, i'm still deciding which one i want to get between the Z9000 or the S5200N

    Thnx

I have read that the z9000 can't be a centrino machine, because it doesn't use the Intel chipset but the ATI one. I am wondering, is this true?

Does anyone in this forum own a Z9000? could you possibly tell me the flaws of it?
the Z9000 is made from magnesium alloy while the other asus (S5N M5N M6N) are made from carbon fiber alloys
i've read that the carbon fiber alloys are 120% more durable than the magnesium alloys, does this mean that magnesium alloys suck? or just average and the carbon fiber alloys r really good

ya it uses the ati chipset but it doesn't really matter that its not a centrino machine cuz performance wise, it should be equal to a "centrino" machine since the processor is the same
i think the chipset only allows a better wireless connection
    i'm not sure tho..

    Technically speaking...

Magnesium alloys are light metal alloys that have the potential for denting if struck. But have a pretty sexy look :)

Carbon Fibre on the other hand as the name suggests is made out of carbon strands or weave and is not made out of metal. That means it isn't an alloy. I would expect the carbon to be tougher on impacts but maybe less resistant to abrasion than the magnesium.

    Yeah?

    Peace out side.

I own a Z9000, Its awesome. im using it right now. I dunno, gets a bit warm, but only as expected. the hardrive is located in the bottom left, so right where your thigh would be, thats the warmest spot. When im not playing games, I boost the thing down to 600 mhz, it sits VERY quiet with no fan for something like 10-15min. Heres my specs:

    Dothan 1.7ghz
    512mb ram
    128mb shared vram
    40gb 5400 rpm drive

Thats how i customized the z9000. I love it so far, this being my very first laptop im very pleased. The screen is very well designed, and dvd features are nice. I play bf1942, americas army and jedi knight 2 on this thing, bf1942 runs like it usually does... jedi knight PERFECT 100% graphics and americas army at normal setting very smooth. Wonderful machine.
