Not common - but I've seen this a couple times this year and both were on the A6u's.... It's not a Turion problem..... or an A6 chassis problem.... but a power supply problem...

If your battery light on when plugged in? Does it go off after a while... like an hour when it's all charged?

Basically the motherboard may need to get looked at.

Quick question... this will tell me a lot too.... ok, it won't boot on the battery.. and it'll work on the AC.. but when you're booted, can you pull out the plug and run off battery? If yes, call up your dealer and tell them the powersupply on the motherboard needs to be looked at..... and tell them everything we've already tried...

Yeah, you HAVE to get it looked at... you're going to need a new motherboard.

Doesn't matter if it's a barebone of not - the warranty on the barebone is covered directly who you bought it from.... Asus is not responsible to you for it.

Did you get a replacement system or a replacement battery? The issue you're having is a motherboard issue and I hope that's what was replaced..... if they claim to have replaced the whole system.... are the serial numbers different? Most likely just the motherboard would have been replaced and you should have some record of the serial number of the new motherboard and that should be different than the serial number of the system itself.

You'll have to sent it in again because it's your motherboard...... and it shouldn't have happened again..... if they claimed to replace the motherboard, I'd think there's a good chance they didn't because this is rare and really unlikely to happen twice to the same person... let alone right when you get the new one back.

Ok, well there's a chance it's one of your other parts.... although I doubt it... battery, ac adapter...... but if they sent you a whole new barebone box..... you got a new battery and ac adapter.... I think you just got extremely unlucky.

ASUS Notebook Support confirmed it was an issue with the MT-40 only.
Hopefully a BIOS update will be out soon to fix this...

... sorry, perhaps I'm not following along or someone left out that key piece of information. If you have a problem like this, you contact your dealer first... if you don't get any help there, then bounce onto the forum. Someone's already tried to ***** me out for "telling their customer what to do" even though they weren't helping the customer till after I commented.

But just as a comment........ the old A6u's would and still do the same thing if you use a cheaper a64 mobile cpu instead of a Turion... but "officially" only the MT30 and MT37 have been certified by Asus. Although it physically works, as Sasha said, it's a waiting game and it's one you'll have to sit through. There is a chance Asus will never be able to take care of it.. but chances are it'll just take some time.

Well if you're looking on the 25w side and not the 35w.... the MT30 and 37 are really the only other Turion cpu's besides the MT40..... I wouldn't use the 35w in these systems anyway... but you'd see the same problem most likely if you put in an a64 mobile cpu as well.

.... It's not that it's not "compatible", because it is...... it's not "certified" which means it hasn't been officially tested and given the A OK by Asus as to working in every possible way.... that's why there are only two certified 25w Turion cpus..... This seems to happen with EVERY AMD model... where the highest end cpus just aren't compatible with the first bios put out on release.... But, you're right, it is something they are aware of, they just need Taiwan to fix the bios..... hopefully they can, but I've seen situations in the past where they just couldn't get it to work. Then they'd fall back on the fact the that certain cpu wasn't certified from the begining and basically at that point you're out of luck.
