Ok Here is my question to you budding ASUS fellas

I've got a ASUS Z92u Turion MT-30 blah blah blah BUt it has the SIS m760GX as the integrated graphics chip.
    Bought it In New Zealand

Now I've asked ASUS about upgradeing to a Go6200 or something like that and they said impossible as the m760GX only supporst AGP graphics cards and that the graphics is integrated that therefore cant be changed and that I cant add a descrete card in there. I gather its soldered onto the mobo.

Well that all makes sence as the Go 6200 is a PCI-E card right? and if so thats ok. But I came across a web page the other day showing a ASUS z92u with the same SISm760GX and same south bridge (965) i think. BUT with a Go6200. So now I'm a little confused.

Can my notebook take a Go6200 or not? And if not is there anything that will be able to go in there instead, maybe something from ATI.

thanks for you asnwers in advance :)

here is the link to the notebook.

Wait til Justin/Eddie gets on, I'm sure either will know more about it...

I doubt its upgradable, you will probrably need to replace the motherboard...

integrated graphics chip cannot be upgradable normally for laptop. It doesn't like desktop computer if a graphics chip is integrated and comes with a video card slot. I don't think Asus will make a new system board to replace with a same model, a new graphics chip is designed for a motherboard, probably it will be available for different model.

More often than not, notebook graphics are NOT upgradable.
I highly doubt that your case is an exception... even if it were possible for Z92 to come out with a GeForce6200, your notebook already has the integrated solution... and so it would be impossible to upgrade.

As a side note, coriolis: congrats on getting 3000+ posts!

... we'd have the A6k, but the graphics in the unit aren't what American's have come to know AMD for........ so the US office basically said they'd *like* to wait for something better....... we don't know if that's going to happen yet or not, but I do know that Asus intends on marketing Turion just like their centrino systems.......... on the light and thin side--- small, cool running systems with integrated graphics and great battery life and would compete with the Z33a / Z63a ....... and then on the business/graphics/gaming side with systems to compete with the Z70va / Z71v / V6v / W2v ..........

Right now there's really nothing moving - but we should see some new Turions by the end of the month.

hmm, doesnt look like good news, was hoping that Justin would give me some good news or as least know if he or ASUS actually do have a notebook with the SISm760GX and go6200 as I saw on a web page. (goes to look for that page)

I'm starting to thnk that they just coppied what comes off the asus web page which states possible configuration options.

    ..... Insane...

First, there's no such thing as a good motherboard based on a SiS chipset....... period, and don't take offense to that.... Asus does use them on occasion on the notebooks and desktop boards, but they are the low end systems.

Second, if we and/or Asus US has their way, we won't be wasting our time with a Turion or Centrino system with a Nvidia 6200 graphics card in it....... it'll be integrated or 6600/6800 or x600/x700 and nothing lower.

Wow justin that was a super fast reply, thanks for that!

oh dont worry I know I bought a cheep ASUS. I Dont intend using it for gaming.... The only reason I was asking is I'm not sure if what I curentally have will be able to run windows vista (I plan to use this lappy for a while :) ) And I know there will be three different types of GUIs.

ok so the answer is no on the upgrade... Thats cool.. its only for programming and browsing really and other UNI stuff.

Thanks for the responses guys, great help!

No.... Those aren't even on my roadmap and if they were I couldn't talk about them....... all I'm saying is that if you can wait I'm sure there will be something that you'll like..... April and November are typical AMD release points........ February and August are typical Intel release points ---- for Asus anyway.
