So I went to buy an S video cable to connect my notebook to my tv, but when I went to connect it I noticed that the connector on the Z96 is different than standard S video. I went into the user manual and it didn't help me. A standard S video cable has 4 pins plus the black pin, but the connector on the Z96 has 7 holes, plus the rectangular hole for the black plug.

Whats up? What kind of cable does it actually need?

Also what would give best quality? The S video or the VGA output?

Its going to be connected to a 60 inch wide screen. The Tv has a "PC Imput" which is a vga connector, but when ever I have connected thru that, I dont get full screen.

    Please and thank you!

The answer is simple. You need a 7-pin S-Video cable. They're usually made for laptops. If you do manage to get the 4-pin one in, it would show up as grayscale, IIRC.

If you plan on using a 60in TV, you might want to go with the VGA cable. S-Video is a minor upgrade from the standard RCA and basically NTSC limits you to 480 real lines (interlaced, so it's more like a 640x480 that can be rescaled to fit some higher resolutions *sometimes*) whereas the VGA would be as much as the TV can tolerate...

Don't forget you will need a cable to get the sound from the laptop to the TV. Typically, you'd use a 3.5mm phono (headset jack) to 2xRCA (red/white) cable for that sort of thing, though some cases might simply require a phono cable (my LG HDTV has a phono on the back of it for some strange reason).

Fancy that you mention that sort of cable, since I have one that looks exactly like that. Quite handy to have in your laptop bag, since you can plug right into most normal TVs.
