I'm debating between these two laptops and can't decide which to go with, suggestions? I know the Z96J isn't out yet and just looking at the specs below, it seems like you'd be a fool to go with the Z70Va, but maybe there's something I'm missing? Anything I should know?

    Z96J
    15.4" SXGA+ Screen
    ATI Radeon x1600 (256 MB)
Intel Centrino Duo Mobile Processor (1.83 GHz my config)
    Battery Life: 2.5 - 3.0 hours
    6.8 lbs
    $1373.37 - My config cost.

    Z70Va
    15.4" SXGA+ Screen
    ATI Radeon x700 (128 MB)
Intel Pentium M Processor (2.0 GHz in my config)
    Battery Life: 4+ hours
    6.5 lbs
    $1379.14 - My config cost.

What exactly do you like about the Z70Va that the Z96J doesn't have? The Z70Va is a nice machine, but the hardware is outdated. For the same price, Z96J is a lot more future-proof.

You can't really say it's outdated. It's still a powerful machine and it will do everything you need to be done very fast.

The Z96J is just more powerful and newer, but you seriously cannot say the hardware in the Z70Va is OUTDATED.

    Rawr.

Okay, if you need the latest hardware, or would like the latest hardware, then get the S96J, but if you just like the Z70Va's style and build quality then get that, if you can still find it.

    Cheers,
    Mike

There's only really two things I like better about the Z70Va; the way it looks and the battery life.

Alright, maybe not outdated, but one step behind the Z96J with regards to future compatibility. At the time, it is certainly plenty powerful, but if one is making the choice now, and especially considering they are both the same price, I would say the Z96J is a much better option.

Though to be fair, even the W3J, for me at least, doesn't look or feel as nice as the Z70Va ;-)

Battery life, I seriously doubt you'll get close to 4 hours out of the box.

This really just comes down to what you'll be using the notebook for. If you're not a hardcore gamer, then the Z70va is still very powerful for everything else.

Actually, when I first got my Z70va, I was getting 3:45 for battery life.

So, as Shampoo discussed, it comes down to 1) what you're using it for now and/or potentially in the future and 2) how important are looks to you? You might also want to read this thread discussing the same Z70va/Z96j topic.

Battery life between the two units are likely to be similar; I would guess that the slightly better power efficiency of the Duo is offset by the power-hungry x1600.

I chose looks with mine, but those were important to me, I'm not gaming on it and wanted the battery life that comes with it (4-5hr) over the w3v/j. It gets the job that I need done :D
