Somebody asked me when our Z96J pre-order starts, as far as I know, ETA of early June shouldn't be practical. I don't want to start it until Asus give an ETA, by now, I have not heard of any confirmed news.

Do you have an approximate date when you think you should be receiving them?

Paladin44, why are your Asuses so much cheaper than HP's for similar specs?

How do we do it? Well let's see. What do you think their advertising budget is compared to ours? What do you think their distribution costs are compared to ours?

Any of the major national brands will have a tough time competing with a custom builder.

Hey, I always say don't make a problem out of the goal. Better quality, better warranty, better service (compare our rating against theirs at ResellerRatings.com) better pricing.

It's too bad you can't get them with a 1.66ghz CPU and knock a hundred off the price! Of course with the HP NC8430 you have to get the 2.0 and a gig of their marked up RAM in order to get wsxga+.

The T2300E (1.66GHz) will probably be available by the time the PowerPro A 2:24 SUPRA is ready to ship, and it should be a $50 savings.

?? What are you referring to?

At this point ASUS is telling us that 6/19 is a good ETA. What did I say that gave you the impression it would be otherwise?

I am assuming it should be around 700-800, assuming it has BT already included, as the colourshine WSXGA+ is quite hard to find!

Has the date changed anymore? Is it still "supposedly" late June/early July? I would rather buy a Z96J because of the X1600 and the better build quality over the HEL80. If It is like late August/Early Millenium then Im buying a HEL80

This is so frustrating, I really need one by the time I get my SATs back. If I get above a 2100 I get a new laptop!!! Either a HEL80 or a Z96J, if it comes out this when I get my scores back next monday.

yeah, i can't wait either, i'm really hopeing that the Z96j screen will be really good, that's basicaly the biggest thing i'm counting on.

Something like, good viewing angles, good contrast and excellent brightness. Decent glossy finish with reasonable amount of glare/reflections. And most of all good scaling for when gaming at WXGA resolution instead of WSXGA+, hehe that would be perfect, and minimal light leakage of course.

    Thanks,

hehe yah, i don't like dongles either, good luck on those SAT scores when you get em back.

Btw, did you do a price, design, weight, comparison of the HEL80 vs Z96j, depending on configuration, if so, can you plz give a link.

    Well, I'll post my observations.
    1. The HEL80 has a direct fan outlet, the Z96J, however does not have a opening directly above the fan.(not that I know off)
    2. The 7600 vs X1600-X1600 has a greater overclocking ability and works well for the DX9 games while the 7600 go works well for OpenGL games.
3.The WSXGA is not standard on the HEL80.
    4.4 USB ports(Z96J) vs 3 USB ports(HEL80)
5.Looks-HEL80 has a more stylish look and the Z96J has a simplistic look.
6.Biometric and optional TV Tuner in the HEL80
    7.The rest is very similar

At least Z96J can customize the different speed of cpu, HD and memory even choosing the top of line in the market. The specification is up to the user's decision, this will be got what they want.

...you get a new laptop for a 2100? That is simply 3x 700s. Just to pipe in because this comes across as astonishing, but your family must be very well off. Grats and good luck with those scores!

I took the SATs the last year of the standard SAT. To my understanding, which is considerable since I tutor the new SAT, the test has become easier. Analogies were typically the biggest hurdle for anyone. I wish I had taken THIS SAT compared to the one I took, I would have scored a 2300 (790m 710v 800writing)

But hey, I am loving UC Berkeley as is. So whose to complain.

Nothing has changed on the release date. It is still "early" July. However I fear the the first shipment is very close to being sold out, if not sold out already. We won't know for sure until they come in, but ASUS is not known for bringing large quantities in.

I agree with tay.... A new laptop for a 2100 seems kinda excessive, kinda like those kids who get paid $50 for every A they get...
Although, isnt 2100 quite low with the new revision of the SAT?? this may sound somewhat hippocritical,k cause I only got 1920, but then I took it when I was 13, which may account for some of the difference.
I am 15 now, and I get a new laptop cause I start at UW next fall......

Good choice of laptop, the Z96J seems like one of the most fully featured well rounded laptops out there now. Unfortunately, the weight kinda kills it for me; 6.5lbs (plus AC adapter) is too heavy to carry around everyday. Thats why I am going to get a MacBook Pro instead.
I like the Asus better than the Compal because of the higher resolution screen and teh better graphics card.

No, the Z96J is not part of the VBI program so particularly the LCD cover will be quite different.

We will have pictures of it up on our website by tomorrow afternoon, side by side with the S96J so you can see the similarities, and the differences.

Ummm.... did the SAT under go radical changes?

When i took it, i think a 1600 was max obtainable. i'm not THAT old... i'll be 23 soon.

sooooo, that makes me wonder... why a 13 yr old is getting a 1920? where before, a 1200 or a 1300 was considered average-->high. and a 1400 and up was a brilliant score.

...... o_O did i miss something? Might we be discussing the FCAT? or some other highschool test that a 13 yr old would take?

theres a new section called the writing section.... so it now adds up to 2400..... and the length of the test is is 3hrs 45minutes as compared to 3 hrs previously.. (if im not wrong). It's a bad change for 'math' ppl like me...

(feels totally weird how there's no computer related stuff in my post haha)

Oh pssht. 2340 didn't net me anything but an offer of admission. Oh wait, that's a good thing isn't it :). Though I still had to cover the difference for an A8Jm... :(

What's more impressive though is UW@15. No one noticed? That's grade 9!

Cause I was/am so **** stupid! I should have at bare *minimum* broken 2000, esp with no analogies like the previous SATs.....
No offense reicaden, but for an average 17 year old, 1400 is a pathetic score, and 1300 is what 13 year olds average (all of my friends -- I was the only one to take the new SAT with writing). The minimum aceptable (in my mind) for the old one is like 1520. 1600 is pretty decent.
btw, the new SAT is actually 3:55, not 3:45. Trivial, but correctness is important.

I like how the Z96J looks. Its much nicer than the S96J (no weird submerged portion for the vbi panel), and I think its also better than the Compal HEL80. Its a very nice value, but the weight is still a problem.

Honestly, is this guy really 13? Man, realize that you sound like a giant tool and that bragging about your personal records for standardized test scores is like holding a humongous neon sign over your head that says "I'm Pretentious, Elitist and Annoying". 1400 on the old test is a **** good score - the average is in the 1,000's for a reason.

    No, I am 15.
I really dont have records, just expectations, as I have only taken the new one, and only once. My expected score is what I think I should get, not what I think other ppl should get. As you have seen, my SAT score is relatively low compared to otehrs on this forums, and also compared to my friends and relatives [this is called *****ing about my score, it isnt boasting]. Yes, I am elitist, but not so really pretentious or annoying. 1400 is good, I suppose, but it will not stand out in a stack of applications. Anything over 1550 will, which is why I think that is the better score.

    Sorry for offtopic.

If you want to talk about SAT scores, please start a new thread in the "Off Topic" section.

I for one will certainly appreciate your cooperation :)
