My major complaint with my Z96J (and other people with the S96J) was that the volume of DVD playback is terrible. MUCH MUCH too quiet.

Some people thought perhaps it was the fault of the ASUS DVD player. Well, it turns out you can boost the playback volume!

Go to the ASUSDVD configuration. Go to Audio. Click on Advanced. Now, click on the Miscellaneous tab. And click on Noisy Environment.

I'd still like the speakers to offer louder sound but at least now I don't need external speakers to listen to movies while in bed. :)

In all fairness, I'm probably going to use xine for my DVD playback needs but I'm still not done setting up my laptop exactly the way I want it. :)
