I finally have a device to use the Z96Js' bluetooth connection, an HTC TyN II (aka AT&T Tilt), but have been having problems getting the included Toshiba bluetooth software & stack to work with the phone.
Both the phone and the computer a capable of detecting each other, but when I try to establish a connection the Z96Js bluetooth software asks if I want to setup the phone as a dial-up network or access point. It does not give any options for setting up a COM Port for the phone (I want to activesync via bluetooth, and yes, I know you can do it via cable).
Any of you Z96Js users out there had any luck getting this to work with their phone? What other device types have you been able to use with the Z96Js bluetooth?
Is there a different software I could use with the Z96J hardware which would allow me accomplish my proposed task?
Thanks for your time.
Zack
Btw still looking for a few more opinions regarding the largest amount of RAM the Z96Js is capable of recognizing/using, be it limited via the mobo or the BIOS. Have been told 2GB by ASUS, 3GB by some other users, and 4GB by a few others. (looking to purchase 4GB of RAM, but don't want to if it won't run on the Z96Js).

I think you can use various Bluetooth software stacks with your hardware. ViciousXUSMC seemed to use Blue Soleil to good results, but I think that one is commercial?
I have nearly zero experience with BT so don't put too much faith in this, do your own research / wait for other answers. -
1. Never tried ActiveSync via BT on my V1J, but it uses the same Toshiba stack. I have had serial devices linked to my laptop, though, and I do have several BT COM ports on Device Manager. Verify that under:
a) Options: General, make sure Bluetooth COM port service is enabled.
b) Options: Security: Custom Level that you have security settings for Serial Port enabled.
c) make sure the device is actually in the list of paired devices.
There's also this link: http://www.htcwiki.com/page/Cingular+8525+Bluetooth/thread/708261/ActiveSync+via+Bluetooth that indicates how to link an HTC device via Bluetooth for ActiveSync.
2. Z96Js is a 945-based chipset, you can purchase 4GB but the system will only see ~3GB. This is an Intel architecture limitation which has no workaround in the mobile 945 chipset, ie: any memory from 3-4GB is "lost/inaccessible" due to overlap of memory and memory-mapped/hardware addresses. Mobile 965 and newer support memory remapping, which essentially takes that 1GB of memory between the 3-4GB marker and moves it to the 4-5GB marker so you can use it *IF* you have the proper OS (ie: 64-bit) and BIOS support. -
EBE: I will look into Blue Soleil.
AlexF: Thank for the very useful information.
