I just built my Z96Js tonight and as soon as I installed NHC I noticed that the processor is more or less idling in XP at 65C, that dosen't seem too normal I even have arctic silver on it! Even more odd yet when I unplugged it from the power outlet I got slight pixel corruption around the pointer and then the screen just went blank and had to do a hard shutdown.
I'm only getting the pixel corruption when its running off battery power I noticed when I rebooted it it was fine but as soon as I unplugged it the pixel corruption happened again and the screen blanked
I have all the latest drivers as far as I know on there and the 11.04 BIOS version, god I hope my laptop isn't defective or something because I'm not sure how the return policies would work with the place i bought it from!

Alright the screen blanking thing appears to be a driver problem with the omegas, I have uninstalled them. My processor (C2D T7200) is running at 65C idle however with dynamic switching in NHC enabled! Is this a little too hot?
-
yes that is to hot, certainly for idle temps
are you sure you applied the artic silver right? was it your first time ? mayby do it again, think the problem is there somewhere,
have you tried a diffent program to see the temperature ?
have you installed the patch for NHC ( but iam not really sure what it does )
does your laptop feels hot , or the fans on all the time ?
my S96J with a normal core duo goes to 60-62°. ater hours of gaming . and idles at around 50-52°C. -
I have already tried re-applying the arctic silver and its still idling in the 60s. I have put my hand on the heat sink and it feels pretty hot! I have already tried re-formating once, so I don't think it is software that is causing the problem, is there some hardware problem that could cause it to run so hot? Arrg...

I assume you applied a very thin coat of AS5 as directed. The temperature is a little high, but I think that it is nothing to be concerned about if the peak temperature does not exceed 90C. My C2D idles at 55C, and can reach mid 80C after intense gaming. Make sure your fan comes on when you game, and kicks into second gear when the temp goes into the 70C's (tab out of a game to see). I wouldn't worry about it too much, but call your reseller if you are worried.

I just took off the heatsink again and took a picture of what it looks like dirty. Shouldn't the whole CPU be contacting the heatsink? From the looks of it it seems that the whole thing isn't on there! It doesn't make any sense though because I was extra careful to tighten the screws correctly. Should I bend back the metal (slightly) on the screw points so there is a tighter fit on the cpu?

Are you sure about this? How could the heatsink not cover the entire surface of the CPU? Or is it bent at an angle or something? Retrace your steps, and use the manual CD to make sure you are tightening the screws in the correct order.
If it looks like you did everything correctly (and you're sure about this), then bend the heatsink so that it contacts the CPU correctly. It's just a piece of metal, but if you significantly alter its shape or dimensions I think you're going to void the warranty from Intel. So be careful. -
Alright one question as far as tightening the screws, should I tighten them all the way down in the 1, 2, 3, 4 etc.. order or should i tighten them slightly and go the order many times?
I'm about to throw it on again here with screw points bent a little more, if it still doesn't work i might just go to Asus website and buy a new heat sink assembly for $20, perhaps mine is defective (bent?). I must say I have never not had the whole heat sink contacting a processor before, but this could very well be my problem!
