Intel states that the 945G chipset is all that is needed for the Core 2 Duo which the Z96j has.

If I use a T5500 Core 2 Duo, will I need to flash the Bios or will it work out of the box?

    THANKS

If you get it preassembled from a reseller, then it will work out of the box. If you get the chip yourself and the Z96J barebones, then you will need to check with the reseller. There is a chance that the BIOS loaded isn't the newest Merom compatible version.

I'm installing all the components. I just read that it needs a Bios flash.

Will I need a Core Duo in order to do this? If it does, I'll just get a Core Duo instead. I have no way of getting a hold of both CPUs.

    Thanks

Look for my post in this thread midway down the page. It has instructions, links to the original instructions, and a link to a bootable Nero CD image.

    Thanks a lot,

Is this method failproof? I don't want to end up buying a yonah.

Failproof? Nothing is failproof. But, this was my first time installing a processor in a laptop. It was not difficult at all. Slap in the processor and other components. Power up. Follow the directions in the link I provided. Just make sure you are not going to have a power failure during your flash. (You'll end up with an expensive paper weight).

    Have fun.

Do you know where I can find the boot CD w/ the BIOS? Your link is not working(from Ken).

Since there isn't a guide, I don't know how to make the cd or where to place the Bios.

I've only used a floppy (MS-DOS) and flash utilities in the past.

    Thanks
