I Just bought 2x2GB Hynix DDR 667 RAM, But my Z96J only shows 3GB RAM. I tried the two memory models individual and they both shows 2GB so I figure that both modules must be working.

Does the Z96J support 4GB RAM?
If yes, what am I doing wrong?

This is because XP 32 bit only recognizes up to 3 gigs of ram.

    vista 32 bit also...

if you want to see all 4 you need to upgrade to a 64 bit OS

core duo doesnt support 64 bit though...

He can support a 64 bit OS, which will detect all 4 of your gigs.

Didn't see he had vista too :p

It's in the BIOS the Z96J that the 3GB is reported.
But I will try to install a 64Bit Vista today and then report back

Edit: I just tried with Vista 64Bit it only reported 2,87GB (3GB) RAM also.

Try upgrading to the latest BIOS.

The BIOS should recognize the 4gb.

Windows Vista 64-bit should recognize all 4gb.

Hi, I've got a Z96Jm and I have the same problem. I've got 4GB installed, but the BIOS only shows 2GB. I'm running Vist Ultamate 64 bit wich also shows only 2GB. If there is a BIOS update that will allow all 4GB to be recognized, or if it is possable to physically replace the BIOS IC with one that will recognize the 4GB I'd really like to know. Thanks.

Well I don't know the answers to your question but the solution is simple. Check support.asus.com , and download the latest BIOS if different from what you have now. Flash it. And see if it works. If not, you're probably out of luck.

Replace the BIOS IC? I wouldn't advise that...

Alot of post on the forum people say there bios hows 3gb of ram and the first few responses are "you need a x64 OS" people need to understand bios is before you get into your OS, thats the first thing you need in the clear before you even start to worry about your OS.

If your chipset supports 4gb of ram (not all of them do) you just need a newer bios revison to fix it. From there yes you will need a 64bit OS to take advantage of all 4gb.

Even x86 should support anywhere from 3.2 to 3.5gb.

Id recomend a dual boot with x86 and x64 just incase you run into issues with a program not being happy, as is the case with BF2142. If x64 were not enough I know of programs that have issues with 4gb of ram aswell due to how it allocates memory addresses. The creative X-Fi drivers on a x64 OS have this issue, there is a hotfix for it but just a heads up.
