Does anybody experience this problem when placing your Windows 8 Zenbook, mine is a Touch version to sleep and it loses battery charge?

I was using the zenbook with the charging cable plugged in for a few hours ... never removed it.... then I unplugged it... battery at 100%. I put the unit to sleep via the Charms menu. Came back at least 1 1/2 later... zenbook booted up immediately but noticed the charge is at 87%!!

    Is this NORMAL?

It can be normal because there are several factors involved for a battery to drain unexpectedly such as aging including wear & tear.

I believe the charge will slowly be lost if you put the Zenbook to sleep.

I have another issue though, if I close the lip immediately, and I have already set the OS to go to sleep with lid down ... my zenbook will heat up ... and the battery will be drained.

It is normal for systems to consume power while it's in sleep mode.
Verify if the power light is flashing while it's sleeping.
You may check for BIOS and OS updates as sometimes, there are sleep-related fixes involved.
