I have a Asus Zenbook Prime UX31A that came with Windows 7. I upgraded to windows 8 and I have an issue with bluetooth. When I restart and go into desktop I get error message.jpg this error message that states "There was a problem starting C:\program Files (x86)\Intel\Bluetooth\btmshellex.dll The specified module could not be found".

When I go to control panel, then programs and try to remove it I get this error message when I try to change the bluetooth software (so I can reinstall). error message removing bluetooth.jpg

If I try to repair the software I get this error message error message repairing bluetooth.jpg

In both cases I get the fatal error message after these error messages.

Any ideas on what I can do to get the current software uninstalled and then hopefully reinstall new software that will get it to work?

    Thanks in advance

Wow, brick wall after brick wall. :(

Try using Revo Uninstaller; only problem is I think Revo uses the built-in uninstaller used by the software, so you may be stuck removing it from Device Manager via right clicking on the device and select "Uninstall".

May be a dumb question, but you did download the newest drivers from the asus site for windows 8? I have the same computer and have had no issues with bluetooth (tested with a mouse and stereo headset).

so I downloaded revo uninstaller but it doesnt see the intel bluetooth software as an option.

Also I have already uninstalled the bluetooth through the device manager.

I have downloaded the newest drivers through asus for windows 8, but I get the same errors when I try to install it. This is why I am thinking I have to uninstall all the old bluetooth stuff first and then start fresh.

I had a similar problem with my ux31a which came with Windows 8, the bluetooth failed to start on reboot. I disabled Intel Rapid Start and the bluetooth stack now works properly on reboot.

If Jeff Flowerday's method doesn't work for you, let me ask you: did you uninstall the driver software (there is a checkbox before you click OK in the window that prompts you to confirm to uninstall)?

sorry to hi jack this thread but I am already frustrated with my problem.

I cannot find the option to send my files from pc to phone and the weird thing is I can receive files from phone to my pc. This is on windows 8 pro.

I scoured the net for information but nothing worked. I checked the bluetooth service and it is in automatic mode.

no option bluetooth file transfer on charm bar+search+apps
no option on right click on the bluetooth icon on the system tray
no option on the right click+file+send to

why can't I find the option for this..is there something wrong with my windows 8?

    need help! thanks!

Alternatively, you could use a USB cable and connect it directly to a USB port and your phone. You may need to update device drivers, both for your bluetooth receiver on your PC, and the device driver for the phone for Windows.

Here is a pretty comprehensive guide; see if there is anything you missed (it's for Windows 7, but much of it still applies to 8): Transfer Files via Bluetooth Between Phones & Windows 7 PCs | 7 Tutorials

    Hope it helps!

an update on my problem..I removed this driver for bluetooth

    http://support.asus.com/download.aspx?SLanguage=en&m=UX31A&os=30
(under windows 8 and bluetooth section not the wireless section)

and reboot..the options send a file when you right click at the bluetooth icon on the system tray is back..however the intel bluetooth HS 4.0 on the device manager and the highspeed settings are gone..also the bluetooth off/on switch in windows 8 is gone too! what the heck?!

I tried reinstalling the driver and yes as I suspected the send file options is missing again and the highspeed settings are back as well the wireless off switch..maybe I need to email asus support about this..

got another update guys..I tried reinstalling the bluetooth driver because I don't want to lose the high speed settings..and yes it happened again..options to send files are missing....

    but!

after you added the device like my phone..you will be able to see the device on the list of apps on the search..actually it also gets pinned on the start menu in windows 8..when you click on the device..voila there is an option to send files!! I never saw this kind of way on sending files through bluetooth in the net..believe me I searched hard..even posted on different support forums..

tried it and it works like it should!

whew..hopefully someday this will prove a useful reference to others lol
