I really thought a thread was needed for what may be the best designed ultrabook this fall. It also seems to be the exclusive mainstream PC with an i7-4558U processor with Iris graphics.
    Rumors? Specs?

The UX301LA is listed on the UK Amazon site. This is the 1920x1080 i7 version with the Intel 4400 graphics (not the 2,560x1,440 Intel 5000). List price is 1499 pounds which comes out to $2388.51 dollars. I really hope the US prices are much lower. That's waaaaay out of my budget. UK shipping is 2-3 weeks.

Asus Zenbook UX301LA 13.3-inch Touchscreen Ultrabook (Dark Blue) - (Intel Core i7 4500U 1.8GHz Processor, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, LAN, WLAN, BT, Webcam, Integrated Graphics, Windows 8 Home): Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

A very specific question: does anyone know if the 3.5mm audio plug (headphone plug) of the UX301 is headphone + microphone? From the hands-on pictures I only see the headphone symbol.

What I'm trying to discover is whether my earphones with built-in microphone (that I use with my smartphone) will work with the UX301 or not.

Moreover, does anyone know where can I buy a UX301 with i7 and Iris graphics? Amazon only has the i5 without Iris.

    Thanks a lot!

I have some links about the higher end of the UX301LA models, all of which are equipped with the i7 with Intel HD 5100 Graphics at WQHD 2560x1440 resolution (based on what I've read on Amazon's product description):

    1. The DH71T (128GB SSD & 28GB SSD RAID):
Amazon's US website, no price is listed but it allows you to join a notification list:
Amazon.com: ASUS Zenbook UX301LA-DH71T 13.3-Inch Touchscreen Laptop (Blue): Computers & Accessories

MacMall provides a price of $1979:
    MacMall | ASUS ZENBOOK UX301LA DH71T - 8 GB RAM 90NB0191-M00650

Interestingly enough, CompSource has it for $1909... (though I'm not sure how reliable this site is)
    http://www.compsource.com/pn/UX301LADH71T/Asus_46/Intel--Core-I7--4558u--28-Ghz--Ddr3-Sdram--Ram-8-Gb--128-Gb---Intel-Hd-UX301LADH71T/

    2. XH72T (256GB SSD & 256GB SSD RAID)
Amazon US (with no price point):
Amazon.com: ASUS Zenbook UX301LA-XH72T 13.3-Inch Touchscreen Laptop (Blue): Computers & Accessories

MacMall listing for around $2.1k: http://www.macmall.com/p/ASUS-Internal-Hard-Drives/product~dpno~9772538~pdp.

Thank you for posting this. Although, the site doesn't say that they will ship out in 7-10 days. The "free shipping" they are offering is 7-10 day delivery. You can opt for faster shipping, however.

That said, $1,999 is the cheapest price I've seen for the 512GB SSD version. I wish Adorama did list if they have these in stock or not.

It says if they're in stock or not when you add them to the shopping cart.

Apparently, the i7-4558U/8GB/512GB ($1999) version is not in stock. However, they have two other SKUs: i7-4558U/8GB/256GB and i5-4200U/8GB/256GB both in stock and both listed at $1799.....I'm sure that's a mistake.

Be aware that this vendor, like some others, excludes notebook computers from its return policy altogether: you had better be sure you want this system before buying from them. Caveat emptor!

I just called as well. Had the credit card ready to go... then I found out that the i7-4558/8gb/256 ($1799) is backordered till december. Ouch.

I've always hates the way the cover of the zenbooks. Good to see they haven't changed the ugliness. Wish they took a page out of sonys book. I'd be a buyer then

What are the thoughts on possibility of 15 inch version of this with a quad core processor and dedicated graphics card? Will something like this likely to be announced before the end of the year? I really like the design but lack of dedicated graphics card is putting me off. I have considered dell m3800 but the design is too boring.

You may want to look at the UX302LG, which has a dedicated graphics card. It is the 301 look, but a little bigger and with only a 1080P screen. DOn't know when it will be released yet.

Yeah I have seen ux302 already but the processor is very weak in my opinion and I heard that nvidia 730m isn't very powerful either. I really wish Asus release a 15 inch variant of infinity like they did with last zenbook.

XOTIC PC | ASUS UX301LA-DH51T If I could find a vendor that allowed me to try this out for 1 week, then ship it back if I am not happy with it (without it costing me any money I will order it tomorrow) . Now I will continue my dreaming ...
Fine print alert - 6 month battery warranty ... Whew!
