    Does anyone know which one of the ribbon cable and connector goes to the keyboard backlit led for the zenbook Ux31a? I want to make sure its connected properly. My keyboard doesn't light up anymore I tried everything from restoring to bios update to atk package. I know for sure now its hardware related.

    if i'm not wrong there is only one connector for the keyboard, it uses the same for both keys and backlight, so if you want to open the laptop, just unplug and plug again you can not do much things, if it doesn't work, then maybe you have a defective keyboard :(

    Yea I just opened the whole laptop and it was pretty clear which cables were which.

    I bought it from someone. Almost brand new. Everything works except the LEDs under the keyboard.

    I just put it back together and still doesn't work. I'm screwed bcuz no one sells the led part :( only the keyboard buttons.

    I will try that BT tool after I wake up thanks hope it works

    True, you don't find the LEDs standalone for sale. You willneed to replace the entire keyboard if the LEDs are faulty.

    Anyone know where I can find the keyboard with led. I don't see any online. All I see are the buttons by itself

    Just tried it out, the BT tool works like a charm! My keyboard backlight is now back again. :D
    Here is how I did it:

    used Tools:
    - a common empty USB Stick
    - HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool (v. 2.2.3): View attachment HPUSBFW_v2.2.3.zip
    - usbdos: View attachment usbdos.zip
    - BT tool: View attachment BT.zip

    -> extract all 3 zip files in a separate folder
    -> disable "Hide protected system files" and check "show hidden files" in your windows folder options to see all your files (screenshot)
    -> run HPUSBFW_v2.2.3.exe
    -> FileSystem: "FAT", "Quick Format", "create a DOS Startup disk", add the extracted usbdos-folder
    -> Click "Start"
    -> navigate to your USB Stick in explorer, add bt.exe to the root of your usb stick
    -> shutdown
    -> make sure, your bios is configured to be able to boot from usb.
    -> boot from your usb stick (press "esc" when the ASUS splash logo is visible, and select the first entry with your stick, not this one with "UEFI:...." or something like that)
    -> enter this command: Bt -C CNFG /W dd 7c
    -> to not pay attention to the misleading error message "Can't write data" or something like that.
    -> Crtl+Alt+Del
    -> Backlight is ON!

    I got the same problem with keyboard backlight on my Zenbook UX32LA after it was returned from service where the motherboard was replaced. The "Bt -C CNFG /W dd 7c" command fixed the problem. Thanks a lot for the information on this command!
