I just picked up an older UX31A-AB71 Zenbook and I'm having major Wi-Fi issues. I've updated the BIOS, installed all the newest drivers, restarted my cable modem and router too many times to count, and adjusted the WiFi channels between 1, 5, and 11, without improving the Zenbook's Wi-Fi reception. It's literally so bad that I have be within 4 feet of the router to receive a signal. Walking just five feet away causes the signal to drop completely. This is absolutely unacceptable. Do I return it or is do I try to open it up and see if the antenna connection is the problem? Or is there something else I'm missing?

    Thanks!

Return. If you want to open go for. It does sound like a bad connection.

Definitely return it sounds faulty, try it somewhere else first, but even if it works, if it don't work at home then return it as it would suck to plug in an Ethernet cable as then you would only have one USB port left.

Do you have any other WiFi capable devices that have any difficulties connecting? If no, then you can either replace the WiFi card in the laptop, or if you'd rather not bother, then by all means: return or exchange it. WiFi cards are generally really easy to access and replace though.

You can also try getting yourself a USB receiver.

    Just to update:

Yes, I have four other wifi devices in my house. No, none of of them exhibit the same problem.

I've exchanged the problematic Zenbook with a new one, and the new laptop has no wifi issues at all.

    Thanks for everyone's input!
