Guys, the Zephyrus S17 has a big power limit bug in Manual mode. Problem is, while trying to use Manual mode to max out the fans for better cooling, Armoury Crate 'hard locks' the power limit to 65W PL1 which is just bonkers. Many S17 owners have tested this, and all attempts to change power limits through Throttlestop/XTU have failed. Manual mode features a set of sliders (PL1, PL2) and they max out at 65W and 135W respectively, causing hard limit at 65W long term, even though the S17 maxes out at just 55 degrees. Asus guy named MasterC is insisting that this is an 'intended' feature, whereas AMD 2021 ROG laptops don't suffer from this bug. Here's the link to the thread, requesting participation of all S17 and M16 owners to voice their disagreement and persuade Asus for a fix:

EDIT: Problem solved. Head over to post #8 on this thread.

@Papusan @unclewebb I spotted Intel Dynamic Tuning, instead of the usual DPTF that Asus used in older laptops to take control over power limit through Armoury Crate. Can you please help as to how can we prevent it from reinstalling itself? I have seen many tutorials online on disabling DPTF, but haven't seen a way yet to disable dynamic tuning online.

You may want to post this on the relevant Asus, ROG, and GamingLaptops subreddits if you've not done so already.

Have not tested, but this method works for a Dell with similar Dynamic Tuning which was locking CPU TDP to a low limit. -

Any news on this topic?

1. Download and install atrofacgui utility - you can easily find it on Google.
2. Now you'll see a tray icon appear (next to the clock). Find the icon, right click on it and click on Edit Configuration.
3. You'll now see several custom fan curves defined for silent mode. Pick any one of them, and change all values to 100%.
4. Finally save the file, and select the new fan profile by right clicking on the same icon.
5. Done. Enjoy. It easily bypasses any power limits, and you don't even need Armoury crate now, lol.DaReference5754 likes this.
Zephyrus S17 - Power limit Throttling at just 55 degrees in Manual mode! (Affects M16 too)
