just a heads up for those that didn't notice. it seems that portable one now has the a8jm. it seems to be the same model as the canadian version. unfortunately, it seems that it is wxga, not wxga+.

hmm, can't configure it lower. I'm guessing like the MX.. its a configuration based on the ensemble. so is $1699 going to be the price of the A8 everywhere?

the mx is customizable. it seems that when a notebook company gives an option to customize the ensemble, the base price is slightly more expensive than the normal ensemble price (e.g. startech). i hope it costs less, though....

can't cost less as it'll cost the company. Im guessing they're basically customizing the full ensemble, not the barebone. So when upgrading the "built-on-ensemble" model, they get to keep the original processor, HD, or RAM that came with it. downgrading it to be cheaper wouldn't make sense as you'd still have the left over default stuff, unless P1 has some spare slower-processors,smaller ram/HD, etc that it can use to customize it.

Wow, $1700 US? It's only $1729 up here in Canada

Any idea if Portable One will be updating the UX model in addition to the MX?

I think they may replace it with that Asus built on 13.3 model.. but hey you can always ask Portable One yourself, he's a member of NBR too :)

I spoke with someone at a reputable US retailer who also HAS the A8jm in their possesion, but will not put anything on thier web site until it is offically released by ASUS NA. They told me the price will be $1500 USD. The specs that have been floating around seemed acurate.
    T2400
    1GB RAM
100GB 5400rpm, NVIDIA 7600 (may be 7400, not sure) but definately 512MB (per the sales guy)
    No Bluetooth,
    DVI and VGA
    XP home
He said they only had a small amount and that they might not even be able to release them. They may send they up to Canada or something. He thought they would know more this up coming week. BUT, they are in the US and they are in several resellers hands for sure.

    My 2 cents,
    Shoe

For $100 more you get the W3J, seems like a lot more machine for the money.

I think the A8jm is actually going to be $1500 in the US when it is released for sale. NOT $1699 like portable one is charging. I bet they can't sell it to you right now.

I was quoted $1500 by a very reputable reseller who has a strong presence here, (I won't say for certain in case they don't want this info directly connected with them, but I trust them.) They said we have some, but I can't sell one to you yet. Check back next week.

Yeah, that doesn't mean its going to ship out monday. Call'em and ask, "I I order this now, will you ship it to me tomorrow?" Because there is no way ASUS is going to sell the A8jm for $100 less than the W3, it wouln't sell. Portable one is just jacking up the price.
