Got a new A8JM recently, love it...and it's perfect with just one problem that...well, quite frankly is pretty severe. Whenever my A8JM is connected to the AC adaptor, it can connect via wireless LAN fine and extremely well, full strength, etc. But when I unplug it, the connection still apears to be intact, but is no longer so, as browsing, ping, etc. all return "host not found" errors. Additionally, if I start with the adaptor unplugged, and try to connect while on battery, my laptop is unable to do so! Has anybody encountered this? Any suggestions? I can't exactly use a laptop when the WLAN is only usable when tethered to a power cord.... :(

There is a power option on many laptops that will out the nic into a "hibernate" when on battery without use. maybe yours is set up wrong or set to hibernate to fast. The option can be in many places on you computer but i would check in you control panel for the option.

I have the same issue on my W3J. It runs slower than a 56k on the battery.

Yeah as T3ck said... maybe some power option settings is making the WLAN card act this way?

That's what I was thinking...but does anyone have any idea where this option is?

We tested with W3J and a Netgear wireless router. The signal strength is still be excellent at 54Mbps whatever the setting is "Use Windows to manage Wi-Fi" or "Use Intel ProSet/wireless to manage Wi-Fi". You can try to choose a "Power4Gear" and "Always on" in Power schemes to see how is different. For us, the testing has no any difference here.
    Cheers
