portableone claims that the a8jm is a uva (ultra viewing angle) that is 160degree. People claim that the viewing angle on the a8jm isnt so great. So i want to poll.

a word of clarification, the UVA screen on Portable One is an option, it doesn't come standard. All of the A8jm owners who purchased their laptop elsewhere won't have the UVA screen. And im pretty sure most of the P1 customers will not opt for the UVA screen either due to grounds of costs.

Thanks for the clarification! Ok what it says on the site is "indoor UVA Display". And it also mentions 160degrees as a standard. So yes, we are talking about the STOCK display. i would think 160 give impressive viewing angle but many have claims the a8jm has poor view angle. So your opinion is well appreciated :)

ok simple here. the horizontal viewing angle is great prob around the 160. horizontal is always good on lcds. vertical viewing angle is what is bad. and they are all bad for 14.1in monitors. maybe like 30 degrees.

Just out of curiosity wouldn't lighting be also an issue on the viewing angles? If so, wouldn't the angle be just the preference of the users / location of the laptop / lighting? Opps forgot to mention, its all due because of the screen, right?

lighting doesnt really effect the vewing angles. basically viewing angles is if you change your possition looking at the screen the picture and colors stay the same. with 14.1in laptops even nodding your head up and down will change the colors on the screen. invert them. from left to right though is not a prob.

Opps, you are absolutely right, I was thinking about glare, not the angle. My bad.

Mine's pretty average... as has been said, vertically colours wash out pretty quickly. But when I'm in front of it working, I just adjust the position of the lid if things start to look weird, so no big deal for me.

The newer 14.1 wxga coming to the market seem to be getting better on viewing angles. but as for the w3 series the Hp dv1000's compaq v2000 and asus z63a a8jm. toshiba whatevers they all have shared the poor viewing angles. hopefully we will see the end of that pretty soon as some companys have found a way to make them better. the ones that seem to be better though seem to have less vibrant colors. im not sure if that would be a side effect or just the certain models ive seen.
