Can anyone help me out here? This is driving me nuts. I connected my a8js to a Logitech Z-5500 via toslink with 3.5mm adapter, and

    1) when I played DVDs, the center channel (dialog) is much, much fainter than the other channels like music. Almost unhearable.

    2) when I try playing a 5.1 audio test on VLC, the rear two speakers don't produce any sound. Is there some kind of special driver I need to fully enable 5.1? I downloaded the ones from the Asus support website.

You need to have the following on your computer to do what you want:

a)Your laptop needs to have a mini 3.5 toslink port, not plain 3.5 SPDIF port.

b)Your built in sound hardware and software has the ability to decode 5.1 material.

c)Configure your computer jack to output a digital signal (SPDIF).

Yeah my computer has a 3.5 toslink port and can output optical data, because if it couldn't I wouldn't hear any sound at all. Is there any program recommended for playing DVDs in 5.1?
