I'm waiting for a new Asus to arrive and introducing myself on THE notebook forum. Ordered a M50Sv-A1 for the features I want. After lurking here a while and other forums, saw that this community has friendly and knowledgable folks with the answers for setup, drivers and how best to use the rigs. Thanks for the good reading :)

After studying specs and reviews for many 15.4" notebooks within a budget, I gotta' say this rig will best fit my needs for the price. And congratulations to the dealers' sites for their configurable options and website technical information. I ended up getting from justin at xotic as I'd been in communication with him a month ago when considering a different rig, the NP2092.

I got the M50Sv for the solid build, eSata for synching with my desktop and work computers, HDMI {though I didn't get a BluRay yet), a number pad on the keyboard for bookkeeping, a touchpad that morphs into a multimedia touchpad and the Altec-Lansing speakers. 2year parts/labor + 1year spill-coffee-on-it accidental warranties fits my bad habits.

    Thanks!

    Configured specs:
    -T9300 w/6MB L2, GF9500M GS, 3GB DDR2-667, 15.4" WXGA+ Ultra Bright Glossy 1440x900, 250GB SATA-150 5400RPM, DL DVDRW, XP Pro, 8-in-1 Card Reader, BT 2.0, Intel 4965 802.11agn, swivel webcam, SB compatible 3D Audio, HDMI, VGA, BT on/off switch, S/PDIF, 4 USB2 ports w/ E-SATA combo port, Firewire.
    - 2 Year labor/parts, 1 Year accidental damage, prepaid shipping to/from

Thanks for the welcomes and yes I will. Only 1 problem: This notebook will handle video-encoding and all other work better than my desktop, an old Athlon 64 FX-53 i built when it was cutting edge in July '04. And the old Dell E1505. Does that mean my honeys will end up as hangar queens while I'm off to the races with the M50??

It's nice to have such problems :D

The brown truck delivered it yesterday and to say that I'm pleased with the M50 doesn't describe it. A stout, slim 'n sleek build that FEELS GOOD in the hands. Cool and Quiet, I can't even hear it until after sundown when everything else got quiet and I shut off my desktop. CPU-Z and Everest show everything is as it should be. The AU Optronix LCD presents a beautiful display. The GF9500M GS is cool and has a good calibration tool. The Seagate Momentus 5400.4 HDD is fast and quiet. The LG DL DVD+/-R/RW reads and writes smoothly, and is as quiet or quieter as my Plextor and Lite-on drives. I'm still learning all the touchpad/multimedia pad functions -- it is very nice to use -- and better than the old notebooks. The stereo speakers are good for a laptop, no bass of course. The 6-cell battery ain't bad, on the first charge it lasted 1hr 50min with 8% remaining at the default power conservation settings. (While playing a CD for a while and poking around in the hardware & Windows files and settings.)

The Asus mouse was Ok but I replaced it with a Logitech VX Revolution USB wireless mouse to get more buttons.

The only con so far is my fingers getting used to the keyboard. But it's growing on me :)

    I'm a M50 fanboy now!

lol, yea I've hardly touched the other 'puters for four days since this arrived. The speed and widescreen for DVD playback makes me smile. Windows full bootup in 40 seconds! (That is, until its loaded down with more 3rd party stuff.)

There's very little bloatware and I've disabled a few things in Startup after searching for their purpose. But what is " NA" in Startup used for? at HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Yours should be arriving soon, you'll like it! :)

I just got back from a road trip, this M50 was packed in the back of the pickup, and being in the country I hit some rough dirt and gravel roads that bounced us around pretty good. And I like to get the truck bouncing :~)
CHKDSK wanted to run on the next bootup. 90 minutes later (250GB HDD) the hard drive got a clean bill of health and everything runs fine. So it seems durable too so far.
