i like the size and design of the eee pc netbooks, but would prefer a more powerful processor. are there any plans for a more powerful 11.6" machine?

    thanks.

The most powerful right now Is the Acer 1810T Olympic Edition with an Intel SU9400 unless you go to a Dell Mx11, that will get you a better GPU that way.

Acer will soon have out the 1830T, soon may be a real long time out, with an i5, um version.

the alienware m11x is probably the most powerful CULV 11.6" currently.

What notebooks are coming out to compete with the m11x? I don't think I saw anything from Asus that would really give Alienware a bit of competition. Or is the Acer notebook mentioned earlier the only thing coming out that would be fairly comparable to the m11x?

The M11x is unique due to its high-powered GT 335M GPU. There is nothing like it anywhere. There is no competition from any manufacturer at this time. That may be changing. The Acer TimelineX 1830T is really a different device than the M11x. It will be far more powerful than the M11x if it gets a ULV I5-520 or I7-620 but will still lack the graphics power, as it will have only integrated graphics built into the CPU.

Starting this summer NVIDIA will likely start pairing its Next Gen Ion with CULV processors (hopefully the I-Core versions and not the last gen versions), adding graphics capability (Ion 2 = 310M) plus power saving Optimus auto switching. I would not be surprised to see something with specs identical to the UL30JT (I7-620UM/310M) in an 11.6" or 10" shell. Once this happens, I would assume that Asus will get on the bandwagon.

For now though, if you want a very small ultralight business computer to travel on business, the 1830T looks like the best of the new breed. The UL20 should be in for an upgrade in the future.
