Asus does not offer any 'sale' for previous generation notebooks. Instead, they usually offer rebates. So until Asus does a refresh on the F8 series w/ the new Montevina CPUs, we won't see any rebate offers.

And then only if Asus NA has lots of leftover -sn units that they need to move before they bring in the Montevina updates; if there isn't a lot of old inventory of the SantaRosa units, the price will stay the same until the Santa Rosa units sell out. Asus typically doesn't bring in new updated product until the majority of existing inventory in the retail channel has been sold to prevent overlaps.

oh wow this rebate offer is too tricky/complicated for my brain

So, after they replace all the F8 with Montevina and then I have to search for the left over SantaRosa ones to possibly qualify for rebates if they offer them...?

What do you suggest? I plan to purchase F8SN-b1 but I really want C1's CPU but that is out of my budget, 1200 max!

I need to buy a laptop first/second week of June and I don't want the SantaRosa models to be out of stock and purchase even more expensive Montevina one... I hope that makes sense

Asus is extremely unlikely to release the Montevina updates in your timeframe - the product launch hasn't even happened yet and Asus historically takes 1-4 months to work through updating their entire product line.

If that's your firm timeframe, buy the SR chipset then and hope you get lucky over the rebate. The F8s aren't a slow selling model, so the chances for a rebate being issued are probably low. Rebates are generally issued *before* the new models are released, not afterwards, to clear out old stock before they release the new one.

As for the Montevina price, Asus generally doesn't move price points around too much when an update comes out, because the other components have become cheaper and with the pricier CPU they can keep the overall unit price the same or close.

Well, if you can handle a 15", you can opt for the M50Sv-A1. It's a bit cheaper and has almost identical specs as the F8Sn-C1. The M50Sv-A1 also comes with a free 8gb SSD expresscard if purchased from gentechpc so you could sell that and get at least another $50 back.

Also, one more thing to note is that the Montevina CPUs don't come out until late June, and it'll probably take a few weeks to a month or two for Asus to come up with a refresh if they decide to do so immediately after Intel releases the new CPU.

EDIT: Lol.. same thing clearskies said :)
