while everyone is jumping on the widescreen bandwagon, I was wondering about what future Asus models will feature a 4:3.. there's the V6V and the Z33, how about a 14" model? I recall the Z61? was a 4:3 14" model.. will there be one with a GPU?

My guess given how popular the W3 has been, is probably not in the near future, also ASUS is making the new ibooks etc which will also be widescreen, so maybe they are keen to keep this format. I guess it really depends on how much of a market there is for 4:3, at the moment most people seem keen on widescreen, so I guess this is why most companies are producing these models. Until that demand dies down, which I doubt it will, I dont think you will see any 14" normal aspect screens, I expect that ASUS will only supply15" 4:3 for the next year, but Im sure Justin will be able to give more solid info than my ramblings.

I'm pretty sure we will NOT be seeing a 4:3 14" screen with dedicated graphics anytime soon... not from ASUS. Like Underpantman said, the W3V has been way too popular... and a 4:3 version would not make much sense due to the overwhelming popularity of widescreen nowadays.

I guess you will have to live with the Z61a...

No.....You're also not going to see much more of "new" 14" regular ratio models, period....... They are refreshing the M3 to the Z61a for a reason... they have a good product, but they don't want to design a whole new model as 14" regular ratio is a dying bread.....

Regular ratio screens are on their way out...... right now only systems designed for business professionals (ie: V6, M3, S5, M5, M5 everywhere but the US). The V6 is the only *NEW* model for this year and it obviously has dedicated graphics. You're going to see more done with this model in the future than anything else...... Even though the W3 is technically smaller and has dedicated graphics doesn't mean there is a call for a screen that small, in that ratio..... for dedicated graphics.....

Right now, there isn't anything on the horizon.

I have always used 4:3 aspect ratio laptops. I am wondering what would be the difference in going to a wide aspect ratio laptop. I did see some in the showrooms. But cannot really judge how it would affect the usage. I work mainly with spreadsheets, charts and such. My gaming is pretty much limited to Free Cell and haven't watched a dvd yet on any laptop. Would appreciate comments before I get one (W3) myself.

W3 is overkill for you then.. a Z63a would be a better choice.

Yes W3 might be an overkill for me. At this point they both cost the same. I do like the looks of W3 from the pictures. I do some video editing as a hobby once in a while. Would the GPU make a difference in that ?

The Z63A is customizable, so you can get one significantly cheaper than the W3V, depending on what you put in it. Otherwise, aside from no built-in bluetooth and no dedicated graphics, from what I understand the Z63A is nearly identical to the W3V.

Using ProPortable's pricing.. a Z63 with the same specs as the W3V, comes out to $1551, which is over $300 cheaper!

    Hi Goren,

Well I came up with 1706. And there is a $200 rebate on W3V now. Actually it might come cheaper for me simply because I have an extra XP Pro license with me from my dead laptop. Then again I can use that license for another machine.

We'll you're not taking into account the dedicated graphics, bluetooth and Asus' global warranty......... easily worth $300...... but the reason the Z63 is cheaper is becasue it's set up the way it is and is what more people are really looking for.
