I was almost going to get a refurbished G71GX cause they were cheap (ended up getting a G72GX on Craigslist, nearly brand-new for the same price) and in my looking at reviews for the refurbished units I found some issues.

One MAJOR problem I kept reading on all the sites (newegg, J&R, etc) is that A LOT of people claimed that their LCDs werent working, that the units were in sometimes rough condition (deep scratches, cracks) and that some were downright nasty (smelled, food particles in keyboard, greasy)...some claimed they got theirs and they were perfect.

Will you get a good one? 50/50 chance it seems, but if you get a good one, itll be worth the price! Make sure though that whoever you buy it from has some kind of return policy or warranty...even if it is only 30 days or whatever...I think Asus does RMAs on refurbs if you get a bad unit.

Just remember that refurbs are repaired by Asus and Asus doesnt exactly have the best track record of being the best, so refurb or not, you might not always get a working model...

Well, no one else has responded and you're going to get either:

    A. The same response

    or

    B. Some one agreeing with me.

Like I said, you take a risk buying anything refurbished...go for it...50/50 chance good or bad...

I have bought a couple and aside from a bit of dust, they were in mint condition.

Of course you have to be careful with what you buy, if you have any means to asuring a good working condition then go ahead.

Otherwise save a little and better get a brand new one with 2 years warranty.

I bought a G50VT BB version from Buy.com (by way of j&R). It was in perfect physical condition but Vista showed as fraudulent. I had to use the Microsoft 800# to get the license activated properly. Other than that it worked great and I've since sold to my son. He is still using it.

    Cheers,

I got a G51vx-RX05 from a local chain. They let me look at outside the box it in store but wouldn't let me boot it. It came with 7 day direct replacement in store and 3 month asus local warranty.

Like a lot of G51vx laptops, the GPU was running a little uncomfortably hot, so I took it back to the shop, they did some stress tests and replaced the thermal paste on the GPU, dropping the temprature dramatically.

All in all i'm happy with it, personally I might have waited for a G73, but this 15" is a beast as it is, in weight and performance :)

I bought a refurbished G50VT from Bestbuy for my girlfriend last year.

It was 100% flawless, packaged as brand new. It has played games almost everyday for a year without a single problem.

It was a steal for something like $700-800

I latched onto one of the Buy.com/Geeks G50VT today. They just sent the message that it is on it's way.
I spoke to a rep. at Geeks before I ordered, and she told me that the machines that go out to the Buy.com Marketplace were the best examples of the refurbished units that they sell.
I'm hoping for the best. Fantastic price. Hope I get good value.

I had couple of refurbished laptops. Both were nice. If you will look on it from the other side, official reconditioning is doublecheck from manufacturer.
