I've had my z63a for over a month now and I love it so far. One problem I've noticed is that the paint on the palmrest is already starting to fade. I must have corrosive sweat or something, still I was expecting a little better paint job from Asus. Is there anything I can do to prevent this from worsening or do I just learn to live with it? Normally I wouldnt care but little stuff like this can bug you when you have an otherwise perfect product.

Nothing you can do really.
You could of bought some 'wristrest stickers' to put over that area, I'm trying to look for them myself -
Yeah, I've got some scratching/abrasion of the paint, apparently from the lid -- I guess those little rubber bumpers aren't quite thick enough. I started using the screen napkin that came with it for shipping, and that seems to have stopped the problem from worsening, but nothing you can really do about the damage that's already there. It doesn't really bother me at all, though. I consider my laptop a tool, just like any other, and expect it to show wear from use over time. (Of course, I also haven't bothered to wash my car in more than a year, 'cause that doesn;t bother me, either....

It happens to a lot of computers in general... I have the same problem on my M6Ne (especially on the left wristrest)
What a shame...but oh well. Just like barong said... our notebooks are tools. -
Unfortunately I have the exact problem on my W3V. There is a large darker spot on the left palmrest (Where my left hand sits for extended times while gaming). Too bad they didnt use an aluminum palmrest, or at least black plastic.

thanks for the replies, looks like I'll have to live with it. It's too bad this notebook looks so good you hate to see any scratches or fading on it. If this was my old dell or IBM I probably wouldn't have even noticed the fading.

Yeah, I guess the real problem is that ASUS made the unit look just too darn good......

no problems here. But I noticed when I type I don't really rest my palms on the palmrest.
My forearms sort of come in at a V-angle and I rest them (forearms) on the edge of the desk. This arches my hands above the keyboard and improves my typing speed and accuracy.
I do have an off topic question. I noticed that in another thread someone said you can get increased battery life by going into bios and messing w/ the processor speed settings. I want to try this but my computer boots up so quickly that I don't get a chance to hit F2 and enter BIOS (it essentially goes straight to the windows load screen). Do I just have to hold it as I hit the power button? -

*IMPORTANT*
Through the years of using our systems and of course selling them... I can tell you this... Normal people should be able to have their system a good year before the paint on the palmrests starts to shine up. I've heard of this happening prematurely of course and in the last year or so we've collected some data on the people who have this problem. I'd say a good 90% have one thing in common while about 10% of people just sweat A LOT and put a lot of force on their palms.... that other 90% all use a petrolum based hand cream. We've tested some different brands on some of our extra palm rests and have found that the cream actually softens the palm rest and the paint and that causes the paint to wear away a lot quicker. I've seen a couple months in some cases.
any z63a/W3V owners have this problem?
