You can get coolbits and take a look yourself.
    Default is 450/400
I found 500/420 to be stable. RAM doesn't OC much but the core sure does! 520/420 yielded 4162 on 3DMark05 and the air coming out of the vent is barely warm =S

    Hi everybody,

Thank you all for your insightful comments.

My heart surely rests on A8jM coz experience tells me apart from being "future proof" a laptop should also be productive.

I dont want to buy a notebook camera sticking out of my USB port ( with hinges and clips !!! ) for my occasional video chat and would like to have the feature built in. Also, I dont want to spend money on a USB hub in future ( if 3 were less ! ) sticking out of the laptop ports and about DVI port well its always good to have it....no radio shack hardware in future if at all i need a DVI port... 512 MB is overkill but hey what if Vista came up with a Ultra mega Premium version in three years :D.

So those were my reasons for narrowing down to A8jM. But, I have two more questions.

    1. How does the build quality of A8jM feel compared to other laptops...D3ll, HP, SONY, TOSHIBA etc.

    2. How was your experience with portableone.com, is there a forum member from that website?.

Also, after I get the A8jM with bluetooth I am planning to write a really good review on it. You guys tell me what you would like to see....

Well, I really feel that all of us did a wonderful choice by choosing Asus, they really are engineering marvels. Did you guys look at their leather finish notebook....OoooooOooh....

    Thanks again guys.

    P.S: My apologies to Darrick.

Only 4162? I seems most people with OC's that are about the same as yours are getting around 4500 in '05.

    1. It's remarkably solid, far more than I expected even after hearing other people describe it. Answering my own question to Darrick a while back, I probably wouldn't want to drop a basketball onto it, but if it were just on the keyboard I'm sure it would survive unscathed. I'm NOT going to try though :p

Holding it from either end with one hand there is absolutely no flex; the palmrests and keyboard are really solid.

On another note I'm at 541/429 now and it's still not quitting. That's scary, if I hit 600 I'm going to do something brash...

thanks for hijacking my thread :)
also. if you're going to buy, just get it from ewiz.com
    i paid $1350 + $18 ship (no tax)
why buy from the company you mentioned when they won't help you, as the warranty is throught Asus anyway.
IMHO just get it from the cheapest place possible

    Please don't spread misinformation.

If he buys from P1, they *will* help him. They have a very good reputation here, and a more than decent rating at resellerratings.com. Furthermore, they are offering the A8jm as their PortableOne MX for a reason: they warrant it, not Asus, as they custimize the machine for you (adding AS5, offering BT, CPU/RAM/HD options, etc.), which voids the Asus warranty.

I'd too rather get it from P1, sure you spend a tad more, but rest assured, if anything goes wrong, Ivan WILL help you, even if its something small.

Though if one needs it to be as cheap as possible, then theres nothing they can do about it :p

don't tell me not to spread misinformation!
    i wasn't
i was talking about the A8Jm, not a rebadged MX
still, with the few hundred $$$ i save, i could fix it myself (or upgrade to a Merom- Core 2 Duo) :D :D :D

When made in reference to Portable One, that statement is in fact 100% incorrect. Why would that not qualify as misinformation, in your opinion?

From your post I was replying to:

"the company [he] mentioned" was P1. The only way they sell the A8jm is as the P1MX. They *do* provide good service, and *they*, not Asus, provide the warranty.

How is that not spreading information?

This is the last I'll post on the subject, as it's off topic here. I just didn't feel your statement should go unchallenged.

i was still talking about the A8Jm.
the fact is ALL A8Jm have only Asus warranty, and resellers won't warranty
i guess rebadged are the exception.
    sorry about the confusion.
still, i'd get it from he cheapest place,
the money you save could fix it.
