One of the pixels in my z81sp died last night and I was just wondering if anybody knows why the dead pixel doesn't show up in windows.

Not sure what you mean - and are you sure it died and not stuck?

I don't really know, I was under the impression that when a pixel remains red or blue it is considered dead, because regardless of what it's called, that's whats happened to my screen.

Dead pixels aren't a problem with Windows... they're problems with your LCD. You can try this and see if it helps.

Yes i know the problem is with my lcd, my question was why doesn't the problem show up in windows? When i go into a game the red pixel is there, but when i go into windows everything is fine.

Yeah, I had a blue line on my old laptop, similar to dead pixel, except a whole freaking line. Sometimes it was a bright as day, other times it wasn't, it just depends on what the panel and area around it look like on how visible it is.

If the pixel is white or black, most likely it's dead. If it's red or blue, it could just be stuck and could possibly be fixed. You can try turning off the LCD and rubbing lightly around the pixel with a cloth or your finger and see if you can rub it back to life. Be gentle though!

If the problem is not occuring in windows, my guess would be that the video card is overheating. Are you using any overclocking utilities with your card?

My guess is that these dots are artifacts that occur when the graphics card is put through a great deal of stress, that would explain why it doesnt occur while in windows.

how to fix: lower the graphics card settings

Or, it could simply be a driver issue with your graphics card. Sometimes the drivers just die out on you, even if it worked perfectly the day before. Many times a driver update is an unsuspected fix, at least for me. :D

how to fix: download the latest drivers

Or like everyone else said, you could have a faulty connection to your LCD / a faulty LCD.

how to fix: use the dead pixel video / rub LCD gently / check the LCD cable inside your laptop (voids warrenty? you may want to send it to ASUS) / get it replaced.
