this is what im talking about.

Its gonna have way more range than the intel 3945 which has a pitifully short range....

I feel confident its compatible with asus computers but I dont see any information that any of the owners have put one in.

You would think the dealers would sell it as a upgrade....

A lot of people dont like that 3945 . I mean I feel its passable but Ive used a dell e1705 with the old school 1390 and its got like 3 times the range.

makes such a huge difference in download speed to always be in a strong connection...

stamar: There was a huge group buy Atheros thread in the Buy, Sell, Trade area, maybe they still have it available... could save a bit of $$$ if they still had it going...

I was considering it, but in the end decided to leave in my 3945, since I mostly use wireless at home anyway....

$30 is a better price than the group buy had, I think. I'm kinda tempted to grab one...

I have one on my V6Va. I am happier with it now compared to the original Intel. It has longer range and picks up more access points than Intel. Definitely a good buy. Just be careful when installing it. The antenna connections sometimes are hard to take off and put on. Be careful not to damage them.

personally, i'd rather wait til N becomes standardized, than buying a draft card which may or may not be adequate within a year's time.

well, the point is well taken that eventually the atheros card may also have to be replaced over the life of the notebook.

There is a coffee place here in arcata, which is a small town in northern california, that broadcasts a wireless n signal.

Its clearly labeled. I mean to me, I only pick up their g signal and its not any stronger ( they have 2 routers, one is the one that does N, one is so old it does B only, the B only one is stronger but this is router specific not signal)

Anyhow Im just telling you that its out there. The revolution will take many years and be slow but the world will convert to N eliminating the need for more range forever....

Im excited about that, Ill buy into that technology too.

I may be mistaken, but I'm fairly sure the card that you linked won't work. That's a Mini-PCI card while the Napa platform that Core Duos and up use only have support for Mini-PCIe. The existing Intel 3945 is a Mini-PCIe card.

there are even 2 atheros mini pci e cards so i will have to figure out what way they are different too.

and also dug dug had a different one than the one i meant to talk about. He did have the one i linked.

I gotta admit, I have been really happy with my Intel card. It connects when I want it too, and I have never been able to find a network that I wanted to access. I get what I need, so I don't see the need to spend on that. But thats just my opinion (and because I am really poor right now).
