There is a G50V XP driver thread here http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=282100#winxp
Download all the drivers before installing, and follow the Windows XP install guide. I think there is one either here in the ASUS forum or in the hardware forum.

I would suggest XP 32bit, since 64bit's support is rather incomplete and some software are just not compatible. If 64bit is what you are after, I suggest Vista x64 instead.

I would say that the resolution is acceptable although 1440 x 900 would have been ideal, any higher like 1650x1050 would be too small for my liking. It's personal preference, and unless you are willing to void your warranty (1 year) you can upgrade your panel to a aftermarket panel.

As for bluetooth, it's rather simple. For the G50v there should be a access panel below the notebook that would allow direct access to the mini-pcie ports on the motherboard. The wireless card should be directly connected already and there should be an available slot nearby or directly below the wifi that allows for expandability. You will need to contact one of the savvier G50V users for details as to how to open any of those chambers (it's usually 1-3 philips screws).

You can purchase a bluetooth mini-pcie card either directly from estore.asus.com or from any online etailer. I find that ebay has some unbeatable prices as well, so there's plenty of options on that end.

I think theres only one mini pcie slot on these laptops, and its already being used by the wireless card...

Adding an internal bluetooth had already been discussed and its not a viable option. Best thing to do is buy one of those micro bluetooth adapters that barely stick out of the laptop so you don't need to remove it (that's what I did).

    cheers

You can purchase a usb bluetooth adapter at walmart for $19.95
XP works great on mine, just follow GenTechPC's guide as D3X noted and you will be fine

what about Direct Console and ExpressGate? Also, i read the guide on how to downgrade to XP on the g50 series. I saw that there are at least 3 drivers didn't work which are direct console, smart logon and IR.

for those with the asus g50vt-x1 with one hard drive. how many partition is there on the hard drive? the reason i asked this question because i had a problem where i delete both partitions on my gf's HP laptop and do a clean windows xp install on 1 partition. The other partition which at the time i didn't know was for quick launch. So after formatting her laptop, quick launch was no longer there anymore. So just to be safe, i just want to know if the g50vt-x1 has more then 1 partition? And will it be ok if i just delete all of the partitions and just do a clean install of windows os on 1 partition?

Direct console, smart logon and infrared won't work with XP but expressgate will.
With the single hard drive, there should be 2 partitions + 1 hidden recovery partition. You can merge the 2 partitions together to have only one main partition by using Acronis software.

can you tell me a lil bit about Direct console, smart logon and infrared? like what are they for and their purposes. cuz i've never even touched those yet and i've been having this laptop for about a week already.

about the partitions, what are the two partition? can i just get rid of the hidden recovery partition? i just want to format the hdd completely and install a clean windows os under 1 partition and that's it.

Sorry, seems like the Mini-pcie slots are all taken up. Both the Turbo Memory module(unless the X-1 doesn't come with it) as well as the Wireless card takes up both available slots. You can look at the G50V dissassembly guide as to how to connect bluetooth
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=318551
    see 2-20

However, you will need to take apart the whole system to get to the board level. It's likely the standard bluetooth module. You will need to order that from ASUS directly with the appropriate cable.

I dont know any G50v or vt's that have turbo memory... I have a G50v-a2 and two vt-a2 and none have it... I think it is in the other country notebooks maybe? But all mine have 2 slots, one with wifi and one open...
