    Hello there

    I would appreciate if you could help me out with this.

    I have a dilemma. I have seen two notebooks from Asus 1001HA for 250 euros and 1101 HA for 299 euros and I still do not know which one to choose. The thing is that I do not really care much about the price in this elections. So I would love to hear your opinion.
    I have to say that I am going to use this laptop neither to play videogames nor to run Matlab. I am going to use it like a light tool that I can carry in my bag and avoid having to put up with the heavy laptop that I had before which weighted 2,9kg without adapter. That excessive weight was the reason I want a new laptop because it was hurting my back.

    I also wanted it to have Winxp installed to avoid the possible pitfalls that Microsoft might have included in its new Win7 because as you know, it usually takes some time until consumers test Microsoft software for free, well, paying for it actually. You can see the example with Win XP. And of course I wanted to avoid the horrible Win Vista.

    All in all my main doubts to choose are these: 1101HA has a bigger screen 11.6' than 1001ha with 10' and 1101HA has 9 hours of battery life (1,3GHz atomz n520 with 6 cells battery) while 1001HA's battery just lasts 5 hours (1,6Ghz atom n270 with 3 cells battery).

    On the other hand I guess this 1001HA asus is obviously quicker (1,6GHz) against 1101HA with 1,3Ghz. Moreover 1001ha is lighter than 1101ha. Moreover, 1001ha (1,27Kg) is lighter than 1101ha(1,38Kg). And weight was another concern to consider.

    According to:
    http://gadgetmix.com/index/asus-eee-pc-1001ha-makes-its-apperance-at-the-global-site/

    * 10.1-inch 1024×600 display
    * 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU
    * 1GB of RAM
    * 160GB HDD
    * Wi-Fi 802.1 b/g/n
    * 0.3MP webcam
    * 3 USB ports
    * Windows XP or Linux OS

    (why no Windows 7?)
    * 3-cell battery
    * Weight: 1,27Kg without adapter and don't know how much with adapter included.

    If you are not planning to run any CPU intensive software, then the Atom Z520 in the 1101Ha should be sufficient. I think you should base your ultimate decision on battery life. Are you willing to sacrifice weight for the extra battery? If so, the 1101Ha would be the better fit. Though in all honesty, 1.38Kg Vs. 1.27 Kg isn't all that noticeable.

    Thanks for your opinion. Well, u're kind of right when u say that i don't plan to run any CPU intensive software, that is why I mentioned that I did not want the notebook to run things like Matlab. Actually I do not think the n270 makes much of a difference for that kind of CPU intensive program. But what other kind of CPU intensive program we might be talking about? I mean, I guess Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Fireforx, Opera, Safari, Microsft Messenger, Skype, Everest, avast, spybot, winrar could not be considered like heavy unless you tell me the opposite thing. What I do plan to do is having several instances (several explorers, several firefox, several opera ) of some of the last programs and microsoft office, messenger and skype all running at the same time. I hope this will still be no problem for cpu, may be just for RAM but that is not prioblem because I could always increase it with one more GB module.

    But I have a doubt for example with macromedia dreamweaver cs4 which is a program which might be kinda useful for me as well. I read at http://webdesign.about.com/od/dreamweaver/a/aadwsysreqs.htm that dreamweaver CS4 has as requirements: 1GHZ CPU and 1280x800 display. Asus 1101HA does not fulfill that requirement with just 1366x768 pixels, while 1001HA has even less (1024 x 600 pixels). As for CPU may be 1101HA is only a little above fair performance and the 1001HA would go a bit smoother but as for pixels, none of them would be enough, with 1101HA being the closest tro the requirements. I think those are the main programs I would use. Of course I am open to hear any suggestion about other useful programs you come across with, which might make the 1101HA perform badly in case I am forgetting about them.
    Thanks in advance
