Hi guys,
Got my asus c90 from gentech..EXCELLENT SERVICE!!! all was going great and then all of sudden whenever i try and use the webcam the windows (vista ultimate 64 bt edition) crash and blue screen appears saying a leak in physical memory. I gues it has to do some thing with the driver. So i reinstalled the driver for the webcam(AMCap) it came in the driver cd of the asus. no idea what to do as still getting the hang of the things....bios version is American Megatrends Inc. 0601, 7/3/2007
installed the new driver from the asus website, still no joy..
An advise what to do.. it will be greatly appreciated..
regards,adey

Vista 64bit is notorious for being incompatible with many software/games and mediocre drivers.
Try using the 801 bios and see if that solves the problem. If not, call gentech and check if they have a solution.
Your best bet is to downgrade to to a Vista32 or xp32 bit OS. -
I use the software and webcam drivers that Logitech has for their Orbital MP webcam.
It works for both the Orbital webcam that I have AND the built in webcam.
Download those drivers and see if it works. They have X64 specific drivers. -
i have the same issue ... bluescreen says irq not less or equal

Looks like this is a vista problem. I'm running xp pro 32bit and never had any issues with the stock drivers or the newer drivers that are on the asus website.

I'm running XP pro X86 and I'm having problems with the webcam too, I just get a black screen. when I turn preview on, the indicator light flashes, when I turm preview off, the indicator light stays on. I've already updated the asus webcam driver, and that didn't help.
WhiteEightBall, could you post a link to the webcam driver you used please? I'd like to try to see if hat driver would make a difference. -

I tried using the logitech driver, and it still didn't resolve my problem

i am currently using the logitech driver. i have also written to asus technical department.. will update in next 12 hours about the results with the llogitech driver...

Hmm. Thats interesting. I'll test it out a bit more on the built in webcam and see if I get any problems. I only used it for about 5 minutes and attempted to switch back to the Orbicam, that's when I ran into problems. I had to uninstall and reinstall the drivers in order to use either. I used it again for about a minute just to see if it was a fluke and made the switch again and everything was fine.
I'll try again though and do some more intensive tests after work. It'll be about nine or so hours.
Thanks adey for the tech update. let us know when you hear something back from them. -
alright, Please do. Thing is I know it works, because I used it the first time I installed the driver. When I tried using it later, it just didn't work. Hopefully I or someone else will find a fix.

Well, I at least tried playing with it today....
I discovered I had to switch from my logitech orbicam to the built in to make it work properly, but closing or switching back again..... not possible. It would tell me that the program(s) were trying to make an illegal operation and that they would need to close.
Trying to start the internal webcam by it's own software though, unsucessful. It told me that I had other webcamera software installed and that the operation would be aborted.
That's as far as I took the testing for today because I wanted to game some before going to sleep. After work today I'll uninstall my logitech and load up the driver CD for the built it webcam and see what happens. I'm going try a variety of different drivers from other websites to see what I come up with if the stock drivers don't work.
I also noticed on the 28th that ASUS came out with some new driver support, though I can't remember if the built in webcam was part of the update... -
tried the logitech driver, no result..any more suggestions???

No luck so far. I have not gone with any "updated" drivers from Asus yet, but I've been trying to find a configuration that will work. So far it's been hit or miss. I'll get a hit, and I'll try it again a few more times and I'll have nothing. It'll work once in a while but the only good configuration I've had so far is the setup I went into it with which was the logitech webcam and drivers/software and switching to the built in. Other than that, nothing. I'm pretty damn sure people who buy a notebook with a webcam built into it will not want to buy another webcam just to get the built in one to work.
I'll update this post with the list if drivers I've gone through so far when I get off work because I can't remember off the top of my head. -
THE NEWS OUT FINALLY FROM THE ASUS...
please contact your retailer for assistance to the issue.. Asus does not support it. wrote back to ask for 64 bit driver on their website.. no repy.. i guess will just have to wait for 64 it Genesys inbuilt webcam driver.. had to get a dual boot with 32 it to get things to work...
