    Taken from asus forum:

    Hello,
Here's some information that explains the issue you are having on the G1S system:

When the battery capacity is almost full, insert AC adapter, CPU idledue to the Intel Enhanced mode, so CPU is running at low speed. When battery capacity is almost full, insert AC adapter, CPU high loadingCPU will adjust its speed to high level to meet the system

In AC mode, BIOS allow CPU to enter C2 state; in battery mode, BIOS allow CPU to enter C3 or C4 state. For Santa Rosa models, Intel has developed new Enhanced mode for CPU power saving, C2E/C3E/C4E. The Enhanced mode means when CPU enter C2/C3/C4 modes, it will use Intel Geyserville to lower CPU clock speed, then enter the CPU power saving mode, compared with the original C2/C3/C4 modes, C2E/C3E/C4E can save more power.

So when CPU is idle with AC adapter inserted, system will enter C2E mode, to lower and lock CPU clock speed, then enter power saving mode, but it will not influence the CPU/system performance since the CPU will escape the C2E mode when not idle any more, you can do a simple test to verify this.

    1. AC adapter, battery capacity is almost full
    2. Execute the CPUZ
    3. Open four DOS command prompts in windows, change to “C:\”
    4. Execute C:\DIR /S at the same time
    5. Then you will find CPU is running at full speed

    (3) In battery mode, CPU can work at full speed because first, there is no adapter protecting mechanism to add any limitation; second, BIOS will not enter C2E mode, instead, BIOS will enter C3E or C4E mode according to different BIOS design, C4E mode will lower and lock the CPU clock speed, while, C3E mode will not, so the user’s G1S will enter C3E mode in battery mode.

Therefore, with the above scenario, we recommned users to keep the full battery in AC adapter mode.

    Regards,

    ASUS NB Technical Support

I'm regreting so much for not getting an acer 5920... cheaper, can upgrade cpu and with luck gpu and no stupid Cxx protection. I just don't get it!! WHY the Asus VX2S that has the EXACT same configuration of the G1s, and does not suffer from this problem...

I'm sorry if I have missed it but where exactly does it say that the CPU problem will not get fixed? Also the language this technical support person uses is kind of confusing me for some reason.

Anyway... it also make me angry. Asus should really be better than this.

edit: can you post a direct link to the forum please?

Well as you can guess by my activity on the ASUS forum I am also VERY unhappy regarding this AND very puzzled as to why ASUS are doing this with the G1S but not other models AND as to why other manufacturers somehow dont have to do this.

Regarding the language in the tech support response - its no doubt been translated to English from Korean or Japanese.

The question is now - is there anything to be done about it for those of us who are not in standard legal returns period (I bought mine at launch)? In the UK Im wondering if I could claim this as a serious design defect in the small claims court (since I doubt the supplier will play ball on a return after 3 months) but theres always the doubt that a judge would understand the issue (In fact its quite difficult to present the issue in simple terms since the idea of throttling the CPU to avoid damage is reasonable and one would have to provide a long list of models from other manufacturers which do not present the problem).

Anyways - seriously ****** at having bought the G1S now and if I had known of this issue prior to purchase I would have looked elsewhere.

Yap, me too but that's marketing my friend. Now If i just knew how to program.. lol Let's not loose it. If the problem is that the cpu get's stuck at C2 state.. rmclock let's you play with CXX states !! will try it out
