    hi,
I'm dealing with a K72JK with a bios problem (bios update gone bad)...... no sign of life.
So i disassembled the pc, de-soldered the bios chip and reprogrammed with the bios file from asus web site.
Now when I plug the power cord it "start" itself for 1 sec (i can ear the fan spinning and the hd turning on) and turns off, after 30 second it starts again but there is no boot , no hd activity, black screen, actually only the fan spinning.
Holding the power button i can turn it off, and if i press it again the notebook start a sort of boot-loop, where the fan and the hd start and stop.

I've tried 3 different bios version, same story. I do not know where I'm wrong.
The only strange thing is that the bios file is half size the chip capacity 2Mb vs 4Mb... maybe its nothing, but, based on my experience, usually they have pretty much the same size.

    thanks

ASUS BIOS & EC could be combined in the same BIOS chip, by doing that you could have bricked the machine further more.
Best to check with ASUS directly for warranty or non-warranty repair.

    thank you Kevin,
I get your point and, unfortunately for me, make sense. Please check this thread, you also answered, this guy has the same issue, but he never flashed the bios.

    For whoever is interested,
my laptop is back to life!!!
    here is what I've done:
_read the bios chip (it's the one near the button battery) with a bios chip programmer and save the file (approx 4Mb)
_open the file with an hex editor, go to offset 200000 and delete from here to the end.
_open the bios file (from asus web site) in hex editor, copy the content and paste in the other file, obviously from offset 200000
    _save as copy
    _write on the chip
    and good luck
