Hey guys so i JUST purchased my asus a8jp and expected a whole lot from it. I'm not that much into computers and laptops, but i know general stuff like which cpu's good, which HD, GPU, etc to get.
so i decided to get the a8jp because of the ati radeon x1700 and the core2duo t7200 2.0ghz. im planning to eventually upgrade this to 2gb ram later down the road then get a 7200rpm HD.
some things im experiencing is a lot of lag with the notebook in general. turning it on and off takes FOREVER and i don't really know why. after clicking shutdown, i literally have to wait 3-4 minutes. anyone know how to fix this or why it's happening?
my friend showed me to go to run-msconfig then shutdown alot of programs from the startup, but he says he doesnt know which to turn off in the asus notebook. does anyone know what i SHOULD keep and what i DEFINITELY turn off from startup?
im also experiencing a lot of lag from wireless connections, even when using direct connection i get lag. my friend also suggests i might have old drivers that need to be updated. I don't know which drivers to update or where/how. does anyone w/ the a8jp know if im supposed to update or if it's already good to go?
last but not least i downloaded the new AIM. aim 6.1, but after using it, i get SUPER SUPER EXTREME lag. i went to ctrl alt delete and it showed that aim was using like 40-80% of the cpu. my friend's HP laptop that has 512ram solo core at 1.73ghz and etc is working WAY WAY faster than mine!!!
bottom line, anyone know why i'm getting so much troubles? i paid about 1360 which is alot for me because i had to save up for many many many months lol, so i really hoped to get a good notebook. can someone help me out!??! anyone w/ the a8jp or knows about it!?

You might be running power4gear on one of the power saving modes which limits your cpu's power.
Don't know why shutting down takes so long though, a minute would be a long time in my book. -
Try a full system restore using the provided discs, perhaps there was a corrupt install.
It shouldn't be like that. -
If you read the Owner's Lounge thread you'll see that many people are having bad experiences with the original install of Windows. If at all possible start with a clean format and reinstall.
Slow shut down times can be a number of different things. Try hitting a site like this that deals with the issue, or Google it.
It's true that the A8JP comes with bloatware, but be careful uninstalling things because you may inadvertently disable buttons on your NB or remove critical features. In msconfig it's a good idea to Google the process before you disable it. For example, you might have "CLIstart" in your startup group. A Google search on this word will match up with the ATI Catalyst Control Center.
My NB runs perfectly fine on the original install so far *knocks on wood*, but I did a lot of cleanup. I pretty much removed all the preinstalled software except for Splendid, Lifeframe, Power4Gear, VM321 (which is the webcam), and the REALTEK PCIE NIC Driver. Then ran Norton WinDoctor to clean up program shortcuts and registry entries, and finally defragged with Diskeeper. Then to speed up boot times I ran Bootvis. Nowadays I boot and shut down super fast.
BTW it sounds like you are a little disappointed with your purchase, to which my response is -- don't be. The hardware is amazing in this NB, especially for the price. And in your case it's not the hardware that's reducing performance. Good luck! -
i've gotten the cpu to work well and it seems that i can use alotta tabs now and the computer's working fine, but i have one huge problem.
playing lotro(lord of the rings online. the game is liek guildwars/wow) im getting a lot of lag even when using direct connection and being the only one in the whole house to use the internet. The internet i have at home seems to keep disconnecting me and im gonna call sbc to try and resolve this issue, but even when im at my friend's house and i try to use his internet i still have the same issues.
my friend is suggesting a driver issue, but im completely lost on this subject. can someone help me out?? i'm getting constant spikes when playing the game.
even when i use the game at low graphics i have problems!!!!
help me pleaaaseee! -
Weird..did it catch a virus? my A8Jp shuts down in 30s. Also some viruses are known to take up lots of system resources. hope it helps!
-
i dunno what it caught, but i dunno how to reinstall it. can someone show me how to reformat or reboot my comp?

The recovery DVD included sucks, it will put you back to square one with all the Asus ****. If you have a copy of XP or Vista, boot from the CD (Press ESC repeatedly during boot up), and follow the directions. After your install, go to the Asus website and install all the relevant drivers.

The recovery CD works fine. You don't get all the crap back. You do not want to run the drivers CD though. Just reboot when it asks for that. You can selectively install the drivers and apps you want after Windows finishes installing.

after i put the recovery cd in, i dunno where to go from there. can someone help me out.
after the cd goes in, it just opens to a folder w/ a zip file and another folder
asus a8jp help.
